"The best defence is a good offence". I'm a defender at heart. I've played football for 15+ years. My primary position is sweeping CB (Center Back). Most of the time, a good attack starts from the back. A few 1-2s and you're most of the way through the team. The momentum you've built is at its peak, you're ready to strike. As a job seeker its important you start your journey with solid foundations. Build a network, reach out to businesses and agencies, create a strong resume. Then, its time to attack. Connect with those networks, call those businesses and get your name out there. In my last 3 seasons of football I didn't scored a single goal - how deflating. Being active in the job market can sometimes feel the same. I played my first summer soccer game for the season and scored 3 goals!!! What a great feeling. Finding that new job can give the same emotion.

This Wednesday, witness the power of bold creativity in job hunting! 🌟 Meet Adam, a job seeker who turned his fortunes around not with a resume, but with a billboard. After countless failed applications, Adam took an extraordinary step by using his last £500 to buy a billboard stating, "I spent my last £500 on this billboard, please give me a job," and pointed potential employers to his website, EmployAdam.com. His billboard wasn't just a plea—it was a clever piece of advertising that perfectly showcased his media skills. The result? A flood of job offers from impressed companies, and a successful placement at a production company where he continued to innovate in hiring. Adam's story didn't end there. He celebrated his employment by buying a second billboard thanking everyone with his first salary, maintaining his flair for promotional genius. Adam's journey teaches us that sometimes, stepping out of the conventional job application box can lead to extraordinary outcomes. Are you ready to think outside the box for your career? #InnovativeJobSearch #CreativeCareer #JobHunting #MarketingGenius

In the absence of any useful job search advice, let me say this: I am eating a hot cross bun. Thing is, if you are job hunting, the old adage was finding a job becomes your job. But that doesn’t have to be an 8-hour-a-day thing. In fact if it does you’ll go mad. There’s only so many hours you can spend searching for jobs before it becomes Groundhog Day, seeing the same bloody jobs come up time and time again, reminding you that you’ve not heard back from your application. So take a break. Go for a walk, run, or bike ride. Or make a brew, have a hot cross bun, and go and sit somewhere else for an hour. Try allotting 2-3 hours 3 times a week to search, networking, and applying. You might face “aren’t you supposed to be looking for a job?” But honestly trawling job boards and mindlessly scrolling LinkedIn isn’t gonna help you feel better about it, or necessarily get you anywhere.

Job search habits: A curious trend that I've started to notice. I thought I knew how people approached job hunting, but a recent conversation made me wonder: Are we all doing this backwards? What's your first move when you decide to look for a new job? A) Update your CV, then start searching for roles. B) Start job hunting, and only update your CV when you find an interesting position. A few casual chats amongst friends have revealed an interesting split in strategies. I've had various responses all very different to the next. Now, I'm curious about the bigger picture. Whether you're happily employed or actively job-seeking, I'd love to hear: What's your go-to first step in the job search process, and why?

If a job shows up on my LinkedIn feed and I know someone in my network is looking for that type of position, I'm the type of person who will send it to them regardless of how close of a relationship we have. I use LinkedIn as a tool to do my job, so I come across many opportunities, and many people seeking them. But, my job is also very fast-paced to the point that I can't always ask every person "What are you looking for?" when they post "I'm looking for work and would appreciate your support". All of this goes to say that if you're looking for support from your network during your job search, help us help you, and make sure to include your desired job title when making that request. This simple step can make a huge difference in getting the right kind of support from your connections. Don't miss out on potential opportunities - be clear and concise about what you're looking for. Happy hunting! #jobseekers #networking #careeradvice

I know so many people who are job hunting right now, and I see how hard it is for them. Some days they feel hopeful, other days they’re overwhelmed by the waiting and uncertainty. If you’re in that place, I want you to know—I see what you're going through, and it's not easy. The emotional drain of sending out applications, hearing nothing back, and wondering when the right opportunity will come along—it’s exhausting. But even if it feels like a never-ending struggle, the right opportunity will come. In the meantime, there are ways to make the process a little easier: Start by leaning on your network. Reach out to people in your industry, have real conversations, and engage with their content. Many opportunities come from connections, not job boards. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is polished. Think of it as your digital first impression. Use keywords for the roles you want and make your headline stand out—it’s a small but impactful step. When you find a company you’re excited about, don’t just submit your resume and wait. Reach out directly to a team member or hiring manager. A personal, thoughtful message can often get you noticed quicker than a resume alone. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. This process is hard, and it’s okay to feel frustrated or exhausted. Take breaks when you need them. Your worth isn’t tied to how quickly you land your next role. Keep pushing, keep connecting, and remember—you’re not in this alone.

Only 20% of my career opportunities started through close friends and job boards. Do you know where most of the opportunities came from? People in my "lukewarm circle": 👉College friends I haven’t talked to in 20+ years. 👉Colleagues and vendors from 4 jobs ago. 👉People I met when I was hunting for jobs 10 years ago. Networking doesn't have to be about awkward cold calling. Start with people who already remember you. You’ll be surprised how many doors can open with a simple "How have you been?" ----- What has been your experience rekindling old connections? (Share your comments below 👇)
