Football Reading: Books & Magazines for Data & Performance Analysts
What books do performance and data analysts read? Where do you start if you've not picked up a book for while and want to learn more about performance and data analysis?
You might be a reluctant reader, time poor or find reading a challenge, but if you are interested in starting reading or have seen a few books recommended on social media or websites then you can get started again. If you've not been reading for a while avoid setting targets and just read for fun, pick a book that will interest you and if you only read one or two pages to being with - that's great. If you can pick up the book when you've got some spare time before you know it you'll have read several hundred pages!
Many of the books that we've put on our reading list are available as audio books and they are lots of other football and sports books available that you can listen to. It is great to listen to a book when you are doing the daily commute on the bus, tube, metro or train.
If you are looking for inspiration then our football reading list has books and magazines that you might find interesting from Fit for Every Game to the Japanese Magazine Shukyu. We are adding interesting books and magainzes that we've had recommended to us by analysts - don't feel like its a race to complete them all! It is a place where we've collated them for you so you can pick and mix.
As you work through some of the books on our list you might recommend some of the books that you've read to share with other analysts, you don't need to provide a review, although it would be great to share your thoughts with other professionals in the industry. You might also think about a reading challenge like the one Danny Barham set himself. Danny decided to read a book a month, this sounds easy when you read this, but amongst all of the analysis, coaching and completing his UEFA Coaching badges we are surprised he's found the time!
What goes in list?
We are not just looking for incredibly technical or detailed books. Often we are interested to share magazines or books that often don't get the promotion of the mainstream titles - magazines like mondial, nutmeg and glory provide great insights to anyone interested in football. It does all need to be data, statistics and review.
If you read something that you've found interesting please let us know - we'd be interested to share it with the community. It needs to be something that you've read and not something that you are trying to plug or market! We are not interested in this. It doesn't just need to be football related either, many of the analysts working in football are interested in sport, leadership and coaching are are reading around football. If you've reading something that if interesting let us know.
Thanks.
