This week marks the National Road Safety Week and highlights the rise in road trauma and the lack of consistent road data set. The government is investing $21 million in the National Road Safety Data Hub in a bid to boost data sharing between states. The Federal Government has stated that having a clear image, supported by data, of where to best target road safety money will save lives and guarantee that funds are invested in the projects that will have the greatest impact. This work is critical toward achieving the goal of zero fatalities and serious injuries on Australian roads. #NationalRoadSafetyWeek #roadsafety #roaddata #infrastructure #roads #dataanalytics #roadtrauma #NRATExpo NTRO - National Transport Research Organisation, Austroads, Roads Australia, Transport Accident Commission (TAC), National Transport Commission, Australian Road Safety Foundation, National Roads & Traffic Expo https://lnkd.in/gKHkubZN

The Federal Government will fund a trial of radar technology able to detect approaching objects as it investigates new, low-cost ways of improving safety at level crossings in regional areas. The radar trial is one of four projects to share $800,000 in government research and innovation grants under the second round of the Regional Australia Level Crossing Safety Program (RALCSP). Six projects shared nearly $3 million under the first round of the program. According to the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator, there are almost 11,000 operational level crossings across Australia shared by road vehicles and rail traffic. Of those, almost 7,000 are considered 'passive control crossings' with stop or give way signs and 1500 are considered unprotected. The $180 million Regional Australia Level Crossing Safety Program also includes funding for infrastructure upgrades such as the installation of rumble strips or boom gates. As someone who lives south of the river, I really appreciate the congestion relief this project has provided. It's made a noticeable difference. Now, if only we could address the bottleneck at William Cannon and MoPac, where traffic goes down to two lanes before Davis. If they could convert that large shoulder into an additional lane, it would really improve traffic flow along this corridor. Does anyone know if CTRMA has any future plans to tackle this issue? #AustinTraffic #CTRMA #SouthAustin #MoPacImprovements #TrafficRelief #CongestionSolutions #WilliamCannon #TxDOT #TransportationSolutions #AustinInfrastructure #ATX Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Texas Department of Transportation City of Austin

The extension of Dauberman Road in Big Rock is nearly completed and ready to open to the public. The occasion was highlighted by a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 1, attended by Kane County officials, staff, and other local leaders. The newly extended road now runs from Keslinger Road to the north and connects to Granart Road to the south. This $26 million project extends Dauberman Road over Route 30 and the BNSF railroad lines, significantly enhancing the region's transportation network. Planning for the project began in 2008, and the construction phase took a year and a half to complete. This much-needed regional improvement is designed to enhance public safety, improve emergency response times, and increase accessibility for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The extension addresses long-standing transportation challenges in the southwestern part of Kane County. “The Dauberman Road Extension is a key infrastructure improvement for Kane County, providing a safer, more efficient route for emergency responders and travelers," said Kane County Board Chairwoman Corinne Pierog. “By connecting communities and improving regional mobility, this project fulfills a major goal of Kane County's long-range transportation plan." Key Benefits of the Dauberman Road Extension: Enhanced Emergency Response: The extension provides a grade-separated crossing over the BNSF railroad, eliminating delays caused by passing trains. First responders, including fire and paramedics, will now have quicker access to areas north of Route 30, such as Kaneland High School and surrounding communities. Improved Safety: The new road increases safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians who previously had limited options for crossing the BNSF railroad. Increased Connectivity: The project links the Village of Big Rock to the Village of Sugar Grove, improving overall transportation efficiency and system linkage in the region. Learn more about the infrastructure projects currently under review or construction by the Kane County Division of Transportation at the KDOT Website. #whykane #KDOT #roadimprovements

🚆Ten years on from the last edition, the National Networks National Policy Statement (NNNPS) https://lnkd.in/erSrnMF3 has been updated. This document sets out the need for, and government’s policies to deliver, development of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) on the national road and rail networks in England. Safety features and people travelling by different means are considered, be they travelling by foot, pedal cycle, motor vehicle or train. However, in the case of people travelling on roads, ambition with benchmarking and targets is lacking: “Applicants must show that they have taken all steps that are reasonably required to minimise the risk of death and injury arising from their development”. We need a government Road Safety policy that includes targets using Safe System principles. Can we expect such a policy, as part of the new, and long promised, Road Safety Strategic Framework? Might the National Highways Safety Framework for the Strategic Road Network be a hint that a step is being taken towards that? We will continue pushing for publication of the Road Safety Strategic Framework until it is delivered. #roadsafety #transportsafety #roads #rail

Breaking News! The U.S. Department of Transportation just announced that it is awarding $60 million in grants to accelerate V2X deployment. Today, Intelligent Transportation Society of America President & CEO Laura Demeo Chace joined Shailen Bhatt, Adminstrator of the Federal Highway Administration, Dr. Robert C. Hampshire, Deputy Assistant Secretary and Chief Science Officer of the USDOT Research and Technology, Carlos Braceras of the Utah Department of Transportation, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City Corporation, and Jay Fox of Utah Transit Authority. Utah DOT and its partners were awarded a grant for the “Connecting the West” project, which was submitted in partnership with Colorado DOT, Wyoming DOT, and the City and County of Denver. This project will enhance collaboration among these authorities, who all have mature and proven V2X systems, to create a cohesive, interoperable network. In Maricopa County, the grant will be put to work utilizing innovative solutions to improve mobility and safety throughout the region. Working with private and public agency partners, the County will lead a large-scale deployment of V2X technologies relying on 5.9 GHz communications to connect 750 physical and virtual roadside units with an estimated 400 onboard units targeting transit, emergency, and freight fleets. The 750 intersection upgrades would represent 25% of all intersections in the county. The Texas Transportation Institute project will build momentum for V2X by implementing signal phase and timing expansion, flood warning integration, VRU identification, and rail crossing integration, among other uses. The outcome will be a cutting-edge, interconnected network that not only enhances safety and mobility but also serves as a reference implementation for the future of connected transportation. This deployment will create a multi-regional operations environment across a population area of more than five million people and hundreds of thousands of daily trips on 300 miles of the National Highway System utilizing the communications spectrum and companion technologies to dramatically expand current outreach mechanisms. As Chair of #NCTD, I’m excited to share that the North County Transit District has been awarded a $10.2 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (aka: RAISE) program. This dedicated funding will be used to obtain environmental clearance and complete preliminary engineering for the east segment of the SPRINTER Corridor Service Improvement Project. The Project will construct 9.5 miles of double track along NCTD’s SPRINTER hybrid rail corridor which connects the cities of Escondido and San Marcos. This is a major milestone in the District’s effort to improve SPRINTER service frequency from 30-minutes to 15-minutes. Once completed, this project will add to the convenience of taking transit in North County by improving access to major regional employment centers, educational institutions, health care providers and other essential destinations. Improved service frequency encourages more people to get out of their cars and on to transit which will in turn improve air quality and reduce congestion on adjacent roadways. It’s a win-win. In addition to supporting #Sprinter hybrid passenger rail service, the SPRINTER Corridor also supports BNSF freight services. Double tracking will enable freight services to increase frequencies, enhancing the movement of goods and supporting an efficient supply chain in southern California. This grant from the U.S. DOT builds upon funding the District has already received from Congressman Mike Levin and the FTA to modernize SPRINTER signal infrastructure. This combination of signal modernization and double tracking, will enhance public transit in North San Diego County, strengthen our region’s transportation infrastructure and economy and improve our air quality. Quite a package! #GoNCTD #PublicTransit
