https://lnkd.in/d5V7Zn4a Social Protection Graduates through Financial Inclusion! The government’s focus on macroeconomic stabilization and consolidation of fiscal pillar, demands new taxes and deepening of the existing tax-instruments. This is what has been done using the budget 2024-25, as a conduit. This makes poor on the fringes vulnerable to more destitution. Research Fellow, SDPI, Dr. Fareeha Armughan, who specializes in Financial Inclusion and Governance, says the budget has improved allocations for social protection and income inclusion, which can be used to help those who may face the main brunt of structural adjustment. “Fiscal decisions... shape our societies, they shape how things work—who pays for what, who doesn’t pay, and what that money is used for”—Carlos Brown Solà, Program Director of Oxfam México and Atlantic Fellows for Social & Economic Equity (AFSEE) Fellow. 🏘️ #FiscalJustice puts nature, communities, and people at the center of public money decisions. It’s about redistributing resources to reduce #inequality gaps and ensure the effective exercise of #HumanRights. 📊 The impact of fiscal decisions impact people differently based on gender, age, location, and societal barriers. For example, policies designed to promote #sustainability, like rebates for electric vehicles (#EV), often benefit those with greater financial means—leaving out younger, less affluent groups. 💰 Learn more about fiscal justice 🔽 https://lnkd.in/eNqb2UF8 #NYUCIC #TaxJustice #SDG16Plus #JusticeForAll

Argument: If state authority is weakened, multinational corporations may establish themselves as the new governing entities.Corporate Power: In a context where the state has diminished authority, multinational corporations can gain unprecedented power over economic and social life. They may prioritize profit maximization over public interest, leading to exploitation and inequality. Example: In some developing countries, the influence of multinational corporations can overshadow local governance, resulting in practices that prioritize corporate interests over the welfare of local communities. This can manifest in labor exploitation, environmental degradation, and the undermining of local businesses.

I'm pleased that my colleagues at Good Ancestor Movement and I have today launched collaboration our report, Risks of Extreme Wealth, in partnership with Patriotic Millionaires UK. The report looks at seven 'at risk' domains: 📢 Democracy 📺 Media ⚖ The law 💰 The economy 👩👧👧 Social Cohesion ♎ Equality 🌿 The environment Ultimately, the report argues for the introduction of an Extreme Wealth Line, a metric that will enable us to understand the costs and negative impacts associated with extreme wealth. The report was authored by Milly Shotter adapted from a literature review prepared by Dr Kojo Koram. Today we’re excited to launch a new report: Risks of Extreme Wealth, in partnership with Patriotic Millionaires UK. Extreme wealth is a critical yet overlooked driver of severe and growing national and international inequality, yet the metrics and tools to adequately address the issue are lacking. As part of a new initiative to address this, we’ve jointly commissioned a report to explore the risks posed by extreme wealth. The report draws together existing research to outline the impact of extreme wealth on democracy, the media, law, the economy, social cohesion, equality and the environment. It also indicates that further research is required to assess the tipping point at which the harms of extreme wealth kick in, and advocates for the establishment of an 'extreme wealth line', equivalent to the poverty line, in order to galvanise political action and change the narrative on extreme wealth. The report was authored by Milly Shotter adapted from a literature review prepared by Dr Kojo Koram.
