I wrote about the growing crop of advisors urging clients to reconsider how much money they actually need. Among them is Iris Brilliant, who describes herself as “a progressive or leftist money coach": she helps rich clients to understand the source of their wealth, get involved in social justice movements, grapple with complex emotions — and of course, give money away. While advisors say they have plenty of interest in their services, it's not always an easy job: for most wealthy people, everything and everyone around them is "geared towards preservation and accumulation", as Derek Bardowell said. Not taxing extreme wealth is just bananas! Last week Jason Sun, cryptocurrency multi-millionaire created outrage by eating a $6.2 million piece of banana art. I was asked to talk about it on LBC Radio as presenter Matthew Wright was so outraged by the futility of it. Yes it was a pathetic example of an incredibly rich man showing off to other incredibly rich men that he has money to blow on kicks. Money that would be life changing to most people. But less publicised examples of this happen day in day and day out by multi billionaires blowing money for kicks and posturing that could otherwise fund restoring safe life systems on Earth. Musk, Busic and Branson with their ego-fuelled space race. Multi-billionaires buying bigger superyachts, private jets, mansions, even doomsday bunkers to protect themselves from the apocalypse they have fuelled. That money could all be funding the rapid systemic global emergency action needed to restore and stabilise safe living conditions for life on Earth. So many examples of what lasting change could have been funded instead of a momentary PR stunt. $6.2 million could fully fund this nature restoration Tir Natur project plus so much more.
