Good Ancestor Movement and Patriotic Millionaires UK partnered for a report into the 'Risks of Extreme Wealth' which we just launched yesterday. The report looks at seven 'at risk' domains: 📢 Democracy 📺 Media ⚖ The law 💰 The economy 👩👧👧 Social Cohesion ♎ Equality 🌿 The environment Its conclusion argues for the introduction of an Extreme Wealth Line, a metric that will enable us to understand the costs and negative impacts associated with extreme wealth. So good to see that this issue is being taken seriously. Much more needs to be said and done to address the inequity and inequality that follow from the levels of extreme wealth both here in the UK and elsewhere.

Today we’re excited to launch a new report: Risks of Extreme Wealth, in partnership with Patriotic Millionaires UK. Extreme wealth is a critical yet overlooked driver of severe and growing national and international inequality, yet the metrics and tools to adequately address the issue are lacking. As part of a new initiative to address this, we’ve jointly commissioned a report to explore the risks posed by extreme wealth. The report draws together existing research to outline the impact of extreme wealth on democracy, the media, law, the economy, social cohesion, equality and the environment. It also indicates that further research is required to assess the tipping point at which the harms of extreme wealth kick in, and advocates for the establishment of an 'extreme wealth line', equivalent to the poverty line, in order to galvanise political action and change the narrative on extreme wealth. “As it stands, it is almost impossible to conceptualise the amount of money and power that extreme wealth constitutes. This is a significant part of the problem - there are no appropriate tools with which to properly grasp the issue. The report’s conclusion outlines a clear recommendation to address this: it is time to draw a line in the sand and identify an ‘extreme wealth line’. An extreme wealth line (EWL) would play a similar role to that of the extreme poverty line, providing a metric (or metrics) for national and international understanding, future political action, and co-operation on the corrosive effects of extreme wealth.” I appreciate this report so much! Especially as I find myself in conversations about the source of this wealth, the laws and regulations that enable such accumulation, and the reality that we can’t solve our societal challenges without considering the interconnectedness of issues and the role that wealth and its accumulation plays in perpetuating unjust and oppressive systems. How much wealth is too much? Where is the line in the sand and who get to draw or move it? I appreciate our William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund’s commitment to work at the nexus of public education, racism, and poverty—as we continue to refine the ways in which we think about leveraging the totality of available assets. The common steps that can lead to the collapse or destruction of a society or nation: 1. **Erosion of Cultural and Moral Values** - When cultural and moral values begin to erode, society loses its identity and ethical foundation, leading to a lack of trust and solidarity among its members. 2. **Government and Institutional Corruption** - Corruption leads to the collapse of trust in the government and institutions, weakening the legal and administrative systems, and fostering injustice and inequality. 3. **Economic Instability** - Economic crises cause rising unemployment and poverty, increasing social tensions and leading to instability. 4. **Internal Conflicts** - Internal conflicts, such as civil wars and ethnic strife, destroy infrastructure and deepen social divisions. 5. **External Interventions** - Foreign interventions, whether military or economic, can complicate internal situations and lead to a loss of national sovereignty. 6. **Deterioration of Education and Health** - The decline of education systems and healthcare services reduces human capital and makes development and progress difficult. 7. **Mass Migration** - The loss of security and living opportunities leads to mass migration as individuals seek better lives elsewhere, depleting the country of its skilled citizens. 8. **Infrastructure Destruction** - Destruction of essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and buildings paralyzes the economy and makes daily life difficult. 9. **Spread of Poverty and Crime** - The deterioration of economic and social conditions increases poverty and crime rates, exacerbating the overall situation of society. 10. **Collapse of Social Order** - All these factors combine to ultimately lead to the collapse of the entire social order, making it difficult to manage the society or provide protection and security for its members.
