New Blog Alert 🚀 Today, I Learned about some fundamental tools and concepts that are essential for managing applications on Kubernetes From Guidance Shubham Londhe Sir. ▶️  Helm: Think of Helm as the package manager for Kubernetes. It simplifies application deployment by using charts—pre-configured templates that make installation and management a breeze. ▶️  HPA (Horizontal Pod Autoscaler): Scaling applications efficiently is crucial. HPA helps achieve that by automatically adjusting the number of pods based on metrics like CPU usage. This means your application can adapt to traffic fluctuations seamlessly! ▶️  RBAC (Role-Based Access Control): Security is paramount in any system. RBAC allows us to control who can access what within our Kubernetes cluster, ensuring that users have the appropriate permissions based on their roles. Recently, I came across an insightful piece by Daniele Polencic that delves into the significance of graceful shutdowns in Kubernetes environments. This post aims to highlight the key points from that article and emphasize why this practice is essential for maintaining application reliability and user satisfaction. Graceful shutdowns allow applications to terminate their processes in an orderly manner, ensuring that ongoing requests are completed and resources are released properly. This is particularly important in a microservices architecture, where multiple services interact with one another. By allowing services to finish their tasks before shutting down, we can prevent data loss, avoid service disruptions, and enhance the overall user experience. One of the main reasons to implement graceful shutdowns is to maintain system stability. When a pod is terminated abruptly, it can lead to incomplete transactions, corrupted data, and a poor experience for users. By contrast, a graceful shutdown gives the application time to clean up resources, save state, and notify other services of its impending shutdown. With *IAM Assume Role*, you can securely access resources across accounts or even delegate permissions within a single account. ### 🔹 Steps to Assume an IAM Role in AWS: 1️⃣ Create a Role in the target AWS account with the required permissions and set up *trust policies* for the account or users who need access. 2️⃣ Assign the Role ARN (Amazon Resource Name) to users/groups or applications that need access. 3️⃣ Use the AWS CLI or SDKs to assume the role: - CLI Command: `aws sts assume-role --role-arn "arn:aws:iam::ACCOUNT_ID:role/ROLE_NAME" --role-session-name "SESSION_NAME"` 4️⃣ Export Temporary Credentials: The output provides temporary credentials. Over the weekend, I achieved HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate certification. Here is my Terraform workflow - aka roadmap to certification 🤓 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭 I recently joined a new team at work. And here majority of AWS infrastructure was managed using Terraform. I had to get up to speed with Terraform quickly. So I did a plan. 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 I started by reading the official documentation and practiced using CLI and Terraform Cloud. I also used a very hands on Udemy course by Bryan Krausen and Gabe Maentz. I highly recommend their hands on approach. I also used Bryan Krausen's practice tests on Udemy. 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 On May 1st, I booked my exam on HashiCorp's new certification platform (Certiverse). I think, I am among the first few to take the exam on this platform. The exam was 57 questions and I had 1 hour to complete it. I finished the exam in 40 minutes.
