✅🖥️ Chicago Tribune (11/15): “The app, which launches Friday, will offer live access to CHSN, including all Bulls, Blackhawks and White Sox games, as well as other programming. The cost is $19.99 per month for one team’s games or $29.99 for all three, plus the nightly primetime sports talk shows. The service will enable subscribers to stream the regional sports network directly on web browsers, mobile devices and, in the coming weeks, connected TV platforms. On Wednesday, the Blackhawks sent letters to fans offering season ticketholders free access to the direct-to-consumer product for the rest of the Hawks games this season. Similarly, the Bulls are offering free streaming of their remaining basketball schedule for season ticketholders as well. As the traditional regional sports network model struggles, a number of teams are adding DTC streaming services, including the Cubs’ Marquee Sports Network, which launched the service at $19.99 per month in July 2023. CHSN had initially planned to introduce its direct-to-consumer streaming app further down the road, but the impasse with an MVPD likely accelerated the timetable. What’s kept me going in entrepreneurship for over a decade? The ability to create an environment like this 👇 A lot of people start working for themselves because they want freedom. IMO, one of the best things about starting and running a company for the last 11 years is the ability to create that freedom for others, too. It has been a privilege and a (big) challenge to learn what people need from their workplace—and how to make changes. Jenny Weeden and I have been running our internal NPS for a handful of years now and I’m not going to lie… I definitely shed some tears over the first couple of surveys. The NPS does exactly what it should: unearths the things in our workplace that people are unhappy about. When discovered, we set out to find the root of each issue, and determine how we can make change. Change, by the way, is an imperfect process, with bumps in the road, false starts, wins, and losses. Fast forward to this year’s NPS, we received our highest score yet thanks to the willingness of our team to be honest, to engage in meaningful conversations, and to make change together. We're still constantly evaluating our environment and I expect that we will be as long as the company exists. Thank you, team Accelity. 💛 There is no group of people I’d rather spend my time at work with. (Mostly remote, because that’s how we want it! 😇)

✅🖥️ Variety (10/2): “NBCU and Charter announced a new multiyear distribution deal that will make the Peacock Premium ad-supported streaming service for “no additional cost” to Spectrum TV Select video customers. The addition of Peacock to the Spectrum TV lineup comes after Charter inked similar deals for Disney+ and ESPN+, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and Discovery+, Paramount Global’s Paramount+ and BET+, AMC Networks’ AMC+ and Univision’s Vix. All told, according to Charter, through the programming deals reached over the past year, the cable operator will soon provide Spectrum TV Select video customers up to $65/month of retail direct-to-consumer streaming value. Charter is understood to be paying a per-subscriber wholesale fee to the media companies for the rights to bundle their streaming services with Spectrum TV. So while the streaming services are “free” to some of Charter’s cable TV customers, it seems likely that the company will be raising monthly subscription rates to account for the additional linear-plus-streaming programming. Charter also will allow video customers to upgrade to the the ad-free Peacock Premium+ tier. In SimpsonScarborough's 2021-22 “State of Higher Ed Marketing” report, 60% of lead marketers at universities were part of the senior leadership team and reported directly to the president. This number continues to rise in Universities as institutions increasingly recognize the importance of brand management and strategic communication in navigating today’s competitive higher education landscape. Through my research and professional experience, I have seen how this dynamic plays out. Unfortunately, many leaders at the community college level still silo marketing and communications departments under other administrative units, often excluding them from the strategic decision-making process. This is a missed opportunity. Marketing isn’t just about promotion—it’s about aligning institutional strategy with the needs and perceptions of stakeholders. As my dissertation research confirmed, when chief marketing and communications officers are integrated into the highest levels of leadership, they significantly impact university performance, reputation management, and enrollment outcomes. If your CMCO isn’t sitting at the cabinet table and reporting to the president, you’re not just under-utilizing them, you’re undercutting your institution’s potential. This concludes my Monday evening stream of consciousness.

A Love Letter, to Ad Agencies. Yesterday, I visited an amazing agency in Minneapolis, Rise and Shine and Partners. They have great space, great people, great energy, great work. Bravo, Kevin DiLorenzo and team. And it reminded me, why I love advertising, and commercial creativity, to begin with. Agencies, are fun. If you've ever walked into one, or worked in one, you know what I mean. Music plays. People wander, chat, sit on couches, brainstorm, eat and laugh. The artifacts are curious and amazing, and are culturally significant and gettable to only those who work there. That's the point, after all. The conference rooms have silly names. Antler hooks abound to stash a jacket, or a solo cup. Creativity, is in the air. And it's infectious. People feed off each other's ideas and energy, and the aura of conscious creation is palpable. There is a casualness to agencies, that is 100% unique. Many industries have tried to replicate it - but cool furniture and ping pong tables, are mere trappings. Ad agencies, are cool from the inside out, and the spaces they occupy, are cool containers for their creativity. People there, are curious. They are full of ideas. They are silly, for silly's sake. And I for one, am all about a little more silly these days. Of course, they are serious-minded places, and of course, they care deeply about their clients. But still...agencies, are a vibe. You can't help but be a bit cooler, a bit more creative, a bit more curious, when you spend time within an ad agencies' 4 walls. Yes, amidst all the criticisms of agencies, or how agencies are dying off, or how agencies just aren't as relevant anymore...I'm going to pause all that, and simply say this. They are damn cool places to work, if you can. #culture #advertising #agencylife #adagencies
