What do you do if you're considering freelancing?
Freelancing should never be a consideration. It should be a foundation for everyone to controlling wealth and pursuing happiness. People too often are working for others doing the things that they should be doing for themselves. Always have a side hustle.

What do you do if you want to turn your Volunteer Management internship into a job?
Be willing to go it alone in your own business pursuit. So often we are conditioned to go work for others. If you have passion for something you found in an internship, there is no reason why you need to pander to anyone to try to hire you to do that work. Do it yourself. Take business classes, understand how to market yourself, make your own money, set your own goals. Live your purposeful life.

What do you do if your career change is causing conflicts with others?
Not everyone can go where you are headed. If your career, academic, or life change is making people uncomfortable or upsetting others, it’s time to think about who is in your circle. If you’re following a true purpose and listening to your inner voice, there should be no concerns about the trajectory that you’re taking. Not everyone is meant to go on the journey with you. Evaluate who is providing good vibes, honesty, and the divine energy for the journey that you’re taking. Respectfully let go of those who are not on the same page with you.

You’re struggling to manage your team’s conflicts. How can you use technology to improve your skills?
One thing I found effective is ensuring those clarifying questions to understand perspective are there to direct back to clear objectives. We can often get defensive, and sometimes conflicts are people hearing “you’re not happy with my performance, I am not meeting your expectations.” We need to remember in conflict that it’s not a defensive fight, it’s a misunderstanding. Calmly pivoting and asking clarifying questions helps us move forward.

Michigan’s Hidden Economic Jewel: Creative Arts and Culture
Greater Lansing Business Monthly
With the rise of scholar Richard Florida, proponent of the creative class theory, there has been much debate over the impact of cultural economics in our society. Florida ascertains the key to economic growth lies not just in the ability to attract the creative class, but also to translate that underlying advantage into creative economic outcomes in the form of new ideas, new high-tech businesses and regional growth.

Arts administrators across the state have known anecdotally that Michigan’s arts and cultural nonprofit organizations have a tremendous impact on the state’s economy—but not until now have art advocates had the reliable and comprehensive data needed to back it up.
