I love this for at least FOUR reasons. First, [once again], Sports as a Crucible for Life. ↳ Bryan Kryder’s story is another example of how sport ties back into work and life. Growth comes from being outside of your comfort zone. Kudos to Bryan for being brave and having a growth mindset. Let’s check out what Bryan said: ↳  “the older we get, we tend to fall into patterns of just playing it safe and doing the things that we know” ↳  “trying something new” ↳  “a new challenge” ↳  “test myself” ↳  “[overcoming] fear” ↳  “learning and taking instruction” ↳  “confidence” ↳  “progress” ↳  “life skill” ↳  “fitness” ↳  “taking a first step” ↳  “opening up your world” ↳  “limitless” Powerful stuff! Second, Connections and Relationship. ↳ Bryan’s story is moving to me, because its powerful, but also because I feel connected to it. It was reposted by my friend and former teammate Chris Plumb. Chris is the CEO and Head Coach at Carmel Swim Club. Carmel Swim Academy -- which offers “learn to swim” programs like the one Bryan is involved in – sits under Carmel Swim Club. Carmel Swim Academy is another amazing thing that my friend and former teammate is doing with his organizations in the sport of swimming and for the State of Indiana. NIL agents need to be licensed in almost all states. Don't be fooled. People who are acting as agents for college athletes need to be licensed to be agents in almost all states. That means they need to follow athlete agent laws of the states where they are representing athletes. People seem to be confused about this. Even if you call yourself something other than an agent, but are acting like an agent, then you need to follow the athlete agent laws of the state/s in which you have athletes and are operating. You will be subject to the same rules, laws, fiduciary duties as your professional athlete agent counterparts. It is a HIGH standard to be a fiduciary. Don't think that because you are just "kinda helping some athletes get deals" that you are somehow immune from agent laws. There are also federal laws that govern the actions of sports agents. Thus if you are procuring deals for athletes and acting as a representative for them, then you might want to consult the agent laws of your state. Together they’re projecting adding more than 1,000 units by the end of 2025. Six of the eight #brands claim to have sold more than 100 units each, with Dill Dinkers and Pickleball Kingdom reporting they have 400-plus units in #development. The Picklr, Dill Dinkers and Pickleball Kingdom are already eyeing international expansion. As a fellow #MentalHealthAdvocate, I cannot echo or magnify Mr. Simpson’s sentiment enough. Suicidal ideations are something no one can see from the outside. Everyone has a silent battle they are fighting that no one else knows about, and these can be one of the darkest. Sometimes, those suffering from ideations are highly successful/achieving and/or appear to be happy and full of life. The most important (and promising) thing I am seeing lately is a strong push for #EndingTheStigma around mental health issues. For those of you brave and compassionate enough to share your darkest moments publicly to raise awareness and save lives, THANK YOU. My closest personal experiences with suicide revolve around stories that are not mine to tell, but as someone who loves many survivors dearly, I want to offer support for the #Caregivers, also. YOU are not alone either. Watching someone you love recover from an attempt, suffer through ideations, and/or die by suicide is indescribably devastating. The feelings of helplessness are overwhelming, and it can feel selfish to seek help for something centered around someone else’s struggle, but please do reach out and speak with someone if/when needed, too!! In order to help and be there for others, we have to first fill our own cup. If we are empty or depleted, there is only so much we can do to actually help and #FightAgainstSuicide Through this tragic death of Mr. Murray, let us make time to check in with friends, family, and loved ones to close out #MentalHealthAwareness month… and to instill practices to continue year round.

💡 I have some thoughts on some comments about youth soccer in the United States made recently on The Magic Academy podcast. Gerard Jones is the Director of Youth Coaching at Sporting Kansas City, holds a UEFA A license, and is a Coach Educator for US Soccer. Russell Earnshaw is a coaching and leadership expert, and Director of The Magic Academy. Jones and Earnshaw got together on the October 13 episode with The Magic Academy podcast. The comments included: ☑️ Player development in the US is "miles away" from other countries. ☑️ Player development in the US is secondary to team-based training. ☑️ Training in the US is team-based because parents focus on winning. ☑️ Youth soccer in the US is commercial. ☑️ Parents are driving the commerciality. 🧠 So, here are my (potentially intemperate) thoughts: ✅ These things are all true. ✅ They are widely observed. ✅ Many clubs would like a change. ✅ Many coaches would like a change. ❓ I suspect US Soccer would like a change. The question then becomes: 🎯 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁? If the answer is "no," then we should leave everything the way it is. If player development is not the primary goal, then there is no reason to take a developmental approach (to training). (One always has to work as a coach to develop the player as a person.) If the answer is "yes," then we have to recognize: 💼 Youth soccer in the US is a business, and that's not likely to change. 🏆 US youth soccer parents conflate winning with player quality. 💰 Youth soccer parents control the money and, thus, control the direction of the business. (Clubs and coaches are playing to win because that's what the parents pay for.) 🧠 We need to change parents' minds. 📚 Changing parents' minds will take education (quite possibly in the nature of marketing). 🙋 The question then becomes: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗼 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀' 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀? I'll get us started: 1️⃣ I think we need to show parents what "good" looks like by showing them young players from Europe and South America with high-level ball mastery and vision. 2️⃣ I also think we should show parents the developmental processes used in other countries and, particularly, how modern superstars trained at the youth levels and how modern Academy players are being trained. For all of my fellow golf nerd friends......on opening day of the US Open.... Such a fun read by Andrew Beaton in the The Wall Street Journal this morning about Callaway Golf's investment in their new golf ball, the 2024 Chrome Tour. The story really highlights 'the innovation' was a perfect mix technology, engineering and human ingenuity....and real technical leadership from Eric Loper: ⛳ Listen to customers....in this case, Xander Schauffele Schauffele says he was specific about the elements he wanted to improve, such as how the ball held up in the wind. He wasn’t the only one. Callaway’s engineers heard the same feedback from several players: Late in its flight, they were told, the ball sometimes seemed wavy and didn’t hold its line. ⛳ Think differently The odd part, to the engineers, was that none of that appeared in their data. That presented them with two options. They could tell Schauffele and the players that they were wrong. Or they could trust the players and examine whether the problem was with their numbers. ⛳ The less than glorious part of discovery Story about Callaway's testing engineer Nicholas Manzi: He feels that way after they spent so much time together at odd hours. There were about 200 versions of the ball, with each one requiring both Manzi and the robot’s attention. To run the tests with the least wind, he would usually arrive to work at around 5:30 a.m. Sometimes he’d return at 8 p.m. that night. While Callaway has sensors that can track the wind, Manzi wanted the most controlled environment possible.  And it wouldn't be a Tangibly Inc post if we didn't end up with #tradesecrets: Loper says they came up with a new process that significantly reduces that difference, which is backed up by the testing data. When you are in the business of writing articles, they don’t always get published right away. Case in point: the article I submitted to the Golf Fitness Association of America (GFAA) on May 24th didn’t publish until June 25th. Enough time passed that I actually forgot I submitted it, which made for a nice surprise today when I opened my inbox and found it had gone live. Our human experience comes with the dimension of time, bringing aging and all the things many of us associate with it—hair loss, greying, new wrinkles, strange skin spots, and more. In golf, over time, statistically we lose power and distance. But does it have to be like that? I’m not sure it does. I’ve heard tales of tribes that lived healthy lives for roughly 200 years until they were discovered by others and learned they weren’t “supposed” to live that long. Within a generation or more, lifespans decreased to what we consider normal. We also live in a multidimensional electromagnetic field. In the dimensional space of oneness, geometrically there is no A and B of time, only A—the now. This space is one of abundance and perfect health. We can access it, in part because we’re already in and of it. Without getting any further into the metaphysical, the point is, similar to what Morpheus said to Neo in “The Matrix,” some rules can be bent, others broken. We can challenge conventional thinking to experience something different and even better. That’s partly what this article, "Defying Age: How to Maintain and Increase Distance As You Get Older”, is about. The country club industry seems to be thriving despite a struggling economy. According to Chris Davis, a director at Club Benchmarking, the number of country clubs with golf courses that have waitlists has increased from 25% in 2019 to 49% currently. Additionally, the median initiation fee has risen from $29,000 in 2019 to about $50,000 at the end of 2022, according to Club Benchmarking data. It appears that people are willing to invest in exclusive membership experiences despite economic uncertainty.

Prediction: We're going to start seeing more of this in starting pitchers in #MLB - six and seven pitch type arms that can give many different looks to RHB and LHB. Megill has plus velocity for an SP, which makes the diverse arsenal even more effective, but for those lacking elite velocity, this will become very important. Coaches - let your kids throw a bunch of different types of pitches and experiment in high school. Don't overcoach them into fastball/changeup and obsess about command.
