Here are some of my takeaways: 🛣 Enterprise account mapping should have the flow of information and the priorities, metrics and incentives each person cares about. 🚧 There are three levels of consequences: functional problems, strategic problems and personal problems. 📝 Good writing is clear thinking made visible. 💚 When you are champion building, what you are really doing is trust building. SDR’s that don’t do these 4 things will never become AE’s👇🏽 1. Asking your AE’s if you can run demos for smaller deals 2. Asking your AE’s if you can close some of their smaller deals 3. Shadowing the top performing AE’s 4. Follow the meetings that turned into opportunities for the full cycle Hone into those AE skills early. Show management how bad you want it. 2024 SDRs are not like 1990 SDRs SDRs are crucial for achieving pipeline goals. Why do I say this? Sales development is no longer a smile-and-dial function. Sales development no longer just registers prospects for events. Sales development no longer just calls someone they've been told to call by an AE. Sales development is the conduit between the demand generation of Marketing and the targeted sales accounts to create a product, a quality meeting, that will impact the bottom line. So, to sum up.... Shouldn't sales leaders just hire great salespeople, get out of their way & let them hit their goals however they can hit them? Don't you trust your salespeople enough to get their job done? Here’s the thing: The positives sound great. Salespeople are left to their own devices. No micromanaging. Just results. But in my experience, here's the downside—when you let “anything goes” rule your sales floor, you invite chaos. I’ve seen it firsthand. Cutting corners. Unethical deals. Damaged reputation. It’s all fun and games until the shortcuts catch up with you. And then you have to make hard changes. And change management from chaos is really tough. I've learned the hard way, it’s not just about hitting the goals, how you do it matter. The “whatever it takes” mentality can burn bridges, erode trust, and put your company at risk. The best sales teams (probably the best teams generally speaking) are built on process, integrity, and consistency. It’s your job as the sales leader to make sure reps know there’s a right way to win. Goals are crucial, but principles? Non-negotiable. What do you think? PS: I've made this mistake. Use your resources. If you're an AE, use your manager, solutions engineers, marketing and product to ensure you put yourself in the best position to win a deal. If you're a manager, use other managers and your leadership team to gain insight, improve strategy and leverage data to achieve your goals. Dear Salesperson, VERY few people actually have a consultative sales process. But everyone believes they do. What most people practice is this: A **conversion** process with a consultative style. Hear me out. - You know how to ask good questions - You know how to let the prospect do much of the talking - You identify what problem they want solved - You ask why that matters The catch is: Your line of questioning conveniently leads the prospect to your product or service. What this misses: The directional vision of the leader you’re working with. You can’t truly consult with someone if you don’t have a deep, clear understanding of what they’re trying to accomplish. Here’s how to make the shift: Bring out all the viable options that could resolve the issue at hand. Earnestly evaluate each. Discuss with them: - Doing nothing, leaving the problem alone - Using your competition  - Going an alternative path that doesn’t involve someone like you  - Using your company Run hard after the truth. Bring some subject matter expertise. Offer some real world stories that illustrate each of the above paths and get their feedback. Help people make good decisions. And here’s the great news: If you know who (the client) you’re looking for really is and what they actually care about... ...and work at a solid company... ...you won’t have anything to worry about. Lean hard into all the alternatives. Do it confidently. No one else will, and you'll help support some great decision making. ---- PS - Go Vols. Andy Stanley, author of Next Generation Leader, says that “fear defies logic.” This has been more evident lately in sales because some sales reps are afraid to talk to customers about price increases. “We have to save them money." ”They won’t buy from me if we are more expensive.” “I just lost to someone with a lower price!” All things being equal, yes I’d buy the lower cost item, but why are we allowing things to be equal? Why can’t we take a different approach and talk about how our product or service will help a business grow/scale/be more productive/etc.? Sales reps, overcome your fear this week and teach to your prospects how you can help them solve a problem they didn’t know they had, versus being a rep that says “I can save you money.” #mondaymotivation #overcomingfear #salesprofessional

A good reminder for any AEs and SDRs figuring out how to get in front of that senior leader at your ’must win’ account. To get the interest of executives you need to show them a risk, opportunity or threat to their business they weren’t aware of, And often it’s the people doing the work that can help you formulate that unique perspective.

Consistent SaaS Sales: getting in front of your economic buyer (EB) before you do a total cost of ownership (TCO) can increase your close rate to 90%. If your champion is not getting you in front of the EB before you create your TCO, then they are likely a coach (or a friend) and not your champion.
