The primary focus of large language models (LLM) used in Gen AI is to process natural language. Effectiveness of these LLM’s lies in methods being used to process the units of text given as inputs. While a LLM is trained on trillions of units of text, but size alone does not matter. During it’s training, Meta’s Llama 3.1 has reportedly processed 15 trillion of individual units of text, commonly referred as tokens, while training dataset size for GPT-4 is reported at 1.5 trillion tokens. Despite of this 10-fold difference in size of training dataset, GPT-4 has high score in benchmark tests. This implies that LLM training techniques, quality and diversity of training data being used, fine tuning of LLM for benchmark specific tasks and overall model architecture has significant impact on model’s performance, and size of training dataset alone is not so relevant. MMLU 5-shot: Llama 3.1 has a score of 82%, while GPT-4 has a score of 86.4%. Graduate-level reasoning: Llama 3.1 has a score of 35.7%, while GPT-4 has a score of 39.5%.   #AIModelTraining #LargeLanguageModels

We can understand the power of story telling to generate interest, empathy, intrigue, emotion reading this story by Ernesto Sirolli. Stories laced with humour establishes context and make people care about a topic. Sounds like a hyperbole? Read on to find out 😊  The Italian Ernesto, and his team decided to teach the Zambian people how to grow food as a part of African Aid Initiative by World Bank. They arrived with Italian seeds in southern Zambia.. There was a magnificent, fertile Valley going down to the Zambezi River. They taught the local people how to grow Italian Zucchini and  Tomatoes🍅. Local people showed no interest in doing that. Ernesto and  team were shocked that in such a fertile Valley, people had no interest in tapping into agricultural bounty. Instead of asking them why they werent growing anything, they simply said "Thank God, we're here. Just in the nick of time to save the Zambian people from starvation"  And of course everything in Africa grew beautifully. They ended up growing magnificent 🍅 tomatoes. They couldn't believe they were telling local people "Look how easy Agriculture is"  When the tomatoes were nice, red and ripe, overnight, two hundred hippos came out of the river and they ate everything.  And they said to to Zambians "My God, the hippos!" And the Zambians said "Yes, that's why there is no agriculture here"  As leaders, we need to remind ourselves that we need to study the environment, and have basic curiosity, if its that easy why people are not doing it. In a few communities in North india, the daughter in law is not supposed to do any work for a few days after marriage, they give her special bangles. Simon Sinek, management guru, shared, how few companies mandate that new Comer can't speak in meetings for one whole month and try to understand the culture and observe.  Often it's thought, people are lazy, uninformed and there is a zealous drive to jump into action mode.  Root cause analysis will ensure that efforts doesn't come to a naught.
