EEL and the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy are leading the UMass Boston Early Education Cost and Usage Simulator Project (CUSP) to produce reliable estimates about key impacts of proposed legislation to expand ECE access in Massachusetts. CUSP’s multidisciplinary research team, which includes EEL Executive Director Prof. Anne Douglass, recently published an article in UMass Donahue Institute’s journal MassBenchmarks about their findings that providing financial assistance for high-quality EECE to families would enable 34 percent more children to access licensed care, which in turn would allow more parents to afford reliable care and increase their employment. As Prof. Douglass and her co-authors note: “Making quality care more affordable for families affects the decisions parents make about the care and education their children receive. It also allows for more reliable care for longer periods, which paves the way for both increased and more stable employment for parents, especially mothers. 5 Key Takeaways from My Recent Talk on School Communications I had the privilege of presenting at the NYSAIS Divisional Leadership Institute (DLI) for new division heads in New York State independent schools. It was an honor to share insights on "Leading with Communications: Building Trust and Relationships in Independent Schools." I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the growth of these educational leaders. Key takeaways from our discussion: 1️⃣ Inclusive Communication: We explored the importance of equitable communication strategies that reach all families, not just the most engaged ones. Digital updates that are translatable and mobile-friendly can help bridge communication gaps. 2️⃣ Proactive vs. Reactive Approach: We emphasized the value of consistent, scheduled communications to build trust and keep families informed, rather than only reaching out when issues arise. 3️⃣ Family Engagement and Student Success: We discussed the strong correlation between family engagement and student outcomes, including improved attendance, academic performance, and social-emotional well-being. 4️⃣ Building Trust: We delved into how effective communication can foster trust between schools and families, which is crucial for student success and teacher retention. 5️⃣ Data-Driven Communication: We looked at ways to use communication data to identify engagement patterns and reach out to less responsive families. New publication - Gender References & Allusions in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Reports - the full report can be found at: https://lnkd.in/ex2TP7fR In May 2023, the Kaschak Institute for Social Justice for Women and Girls produced the first analysis of Gender Consideration in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). In response to the study, the Kaschak Institute received requests to extend the research to all the documents associated with the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). In response to this request, the document "Gender References & Allusions in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Reports” includes the analysis of the three working groups’ Summaries for Policymakers (SPM), the full reports of Working Group I: The Physical Science Basis (August 2021), Working Group II: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability (February 2022), and Working Group III: Mitigation of Climate Change (April 2022) as well as the Synthesis Report: Contribution of Working Groups I, II, and III to the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (2023). The paper includes tables containing verbatim references to the fifteen descriptors used for the documents' appraisal.
