The funding will enhance UnifyAI and expand DSW's team. Among their upcoming offerings is insurAInce, designed specifically for the insurance sector, featuring tools to improve risk management and operational efficiency. Researching the ROI of LLM-based applications? Here is an excellent article by Prof. Rama Ramakrishnan at MIT Sloan School of Management. He wrote: "Gartner analyst Philip Walsh has pointed out that with tools costing roughly $20 per month per user, even a 5% productivity gain means that companies are “effectively adding another developer to the team for $400 a month.” "LLMs are a mixed blessing. They have immense potential to increase the efficiency of business processes, but they are subject to numerous weaknesses as well." cautions Prof Ramakrishnan. "It’s vital to have a robust and efficient way to evaluate an LLM-powered application’s effectiveness, identify failure modes, and formulate strategies for iterative improvement, both during development and after launch." I attended the GenAI Summit (Nov 1 - 3) last weekend at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The Tech sector has amassed a significant, above benchmark position in the sector (5 times larger than the next largest holdings in financials). Given the large size of the overweight and spectacular performance we were not surprised to see selling ahead of the previous earnings season. The selling was reversed as #IT companies exceeded high analysts’ expectations. Now we see minimal selling ahead of the next set of results. #STTInsights

Pioneers like Walmart and Procter & Gamble have, over the years, reaped significant benefits from embracing data sharing, yet many organizations remain hesitant. Thanks to new technology, data sharing has become more secure and efficient, easing operational hurdles and regulatory compliance. These advances also redefine the role of trust. Are LLMs better than humans at financial forecasting? In very interesting research, "Financial Statement Analysis with Large Language Models" by Alex G. Kim, Maximilian Muhn, and Valeri V. Nikolaev, they explored the ability of large language models (LLMs) to perform financial statement analysis, a task typically done by human analysts. The study found that the LLM outperformed human analysts in predicting the direction of future earnings, with an accuracy of 60% compared to 53% for human analysts. They also found that the LLM's predictions were complementary to those of human analysts and that the LLM tended to perform well when human analysts struggled. The immediate takeaways? Every finance team should be using LLMs to augment their financial forecasting process. And AI-based forecasting will only continue to improve, while human accuracy will not.

Ola Krutrim , India’s first AI unicorn, recently launched its LLM, Krutrim-7B-chat. This new model is trained in 10 Indian languages and is available on Databricks Marketplace. It can generate text in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, and Kannada. This is the first of several India-specific models trained by Ola Krutrim. It has been trained on a massive dataset of Indic languages— “Krutrim delivers text infused with Indian sensibilities and cultural awareness.” Check out the model here. The announcement came to light at the Data Intelligence Day in Mumbai on May 10, 2024, by Gautam Bhargava, VP & Head of AI Engineering at Krutrim. “We’re excited to be at the forefront of building foundational LLMs trained on Indian languages to better serve our customers in India. We have been working very closely with the Databricks team to pre-train and finetune our foundational LLM,” said Bhargava. He added, “We are confident that Krutrim, our base model, will be able to provide high-quality responses in Indian languages and dialects.” According to Bhargava, Krutrim was trained using Databricks Mosaic AI Training’s GPU orchestration and system optimisations, enabling state-of-the-art generative AI solutions for customers globally. The model is now available on the Databricks Marketplace.
