In just nine years, India has harnessed the power of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to leapfrog development challenges and improve the lives 1.4 billion people. From revolutionizing healthcare and agriculture to driving financial inclusion, India's #DPI model offers a blueprint for other countries to follow. A key focus of India’s #G20 Presidency last year, the Task Force on DPI, co-chaired by Amitabh Kant and Nandan Nilekani, has outlined a clear path forward for global DPI adoption. Let's build on India's success and work together to create a digitally empowered future for all. It’s encouraging to see that G20 has DPI as an important lever for digital governance and strengthening delivery for citizens.

My Observation in Dhaka Tribune on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India: "Both newly elected governments should elevate economic and political relations to new heights to ensure regional security, peace, and prosperity. In particular, the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to offer strong commitment to the Bay of Bengal region, which is currently facing instability due to the unrest in the Arakan region—a situation that could potentially undermine the economic prospects in the Bay of Bengal region.” “If Bangladesh and India truly aim to harness the benefits of the blue economy in the Bay of Bengal region, then peace and stability in the neighboring regions, especially in Arakan and Myanmar, must be ensured. Key Discussion Points: India-Pakistan Rivalry 🔹Dr. Christopher Clary's insightful book argues that leaders with concentrated control over foreign policy (leader primacy) are necessary to turn strategic incentives for peace into changed policy. Strategic incentives alone are inadequate to explain when rivalries improve or worsen; the configuration of political power within states also plays a crucial role. 🔹Leaders' perceptions of the international and domestic environments influence their decisions regarding peacemaking. Enduring strategic rivalries are a source of much war and hardship in the international system, and understanding how they emerge and evolve is crucial for understanding war and peace. 🔹The relative balance of influence among Modi, Singh, Shah, and J. Shanker is not clear from public reporting, making it challenging to assess Modi's configuration of power.  🔹The type of leader can impact normalization efforts between India and Pakistan, but Modi's ideological skepticism and consolidation of power make it challenging to predict his actions. 🔹The historical evidence suggests that Indian and Pakistani leaders are hesitant to prioritize peace due to domestic political challenges and competing elites. 🔹The Pakistani political system is fractured, with a civil-military split and internal divisions within political parties, limiting the government's ability to pursue peace. India may be wary of initiating a peace process that could invite spoilers and potentially harm a civilian government in Pakistan. Challenges to Peace 🔹The use of air power by India against Pakistan in 2019 has raised concerns about the potential for future crises and the unpredictable nature of tit-for-tat escalations. 🔹India's qualitative military advantage over Pakistan does not guarantee political success or deter retaliation in the event of a conflict. 🔹The recent rise in violence in Kashmir highlights the ongoing challenges to peace and stability in the region. 🔹The lack of communication channels and crisis management mechanisms between India and Pakistan increases the risk of escalation in the event of a future crisis. Navigating Uncertainty: Arms Control in an Age of Disruptive Technologies As part of my visiting fellowship with RSIS | S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies I attended the Military Transformations Programme Annual Conference. I spoke on a panel on The Future of Outer Space Security. Given every country's reliance on space for so many aspects of life, we all need to care about ensuring space stays secure, safe, and sustainable. That is a challenge in an age of disruptive technologies though. Despite the numerous other challenges, space security should be given more priority, not just by the major space faring states, but also by the emerging ones and small states.
