We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in south central Kansas.
About us
At United Way, we’re focused on creating opportunities for all because we know that... • financial stability is more than just having an income. It’s also about having access to job training and financial counseling. • a good job starts with a good education. Entering school ready to learn and graduating on time leads to success in work and life. • a quality life isn’t possible without good health. A neighbor recently diagnosed with cancer, a victim of abuse or someone struggling with mental illness - they all need quality care. We keep tabs on the pulse of the community and look for problems that need solving, people who need help and the local programs that can do the best job. United Way of the Plains helps over 150,000 people in south central Kansas. Who are they? Could be the guy in the cubicle next to you, the boy who sacked your groceries at the store, the elderly woman who walks her dog by your house every day. They’re people like you and me, who live here and need a little help sometimes. But we do more than ask for your money. We ask for your input, conduct research, work with coalitions, write grants, recruit volunteers, distribute in-kind goods and make sure people find the services they need through 2-1-1. Perfect example of the #ForceForGood in action! Leaders mentoring each other to better our community. Thank you 👏
All of us stand on the shoulders of the giants. Some of us are blessed to be able to take our giants to lunch for coaching. In 2025, I’ll be the United Way of the Plains board chair. These three have all had the job and led more boards than I can list. This will be my first. They were generous with their advice and encouragement. Walt Berry, Steve Dixon and Jodi Noah are #ForceForGood giants and I’m grateful to learn from them.

We’re thrilled to share that our fearless leader Peter F. Najera, MBA has been recognized by the Wichita Business Journal as a 2024 Power 50 honoree! This inaugural class is full of trailblazers, doers, disruptors, and obviously newsmakers who are creating change for a better Wichita. It’s no surprise to see Pete on this list, his servant leadership style inspires us all to be a #ForceForGood Congratulations Pete! 🎉 #Power50 #WBJ #LiveUnited #TeamUnited

The best way to spread holiday cheer is to volunteer!🎄✨️ Thank you to our community partners at McCownGordon Construction for taking time to volunteer at our Give Items of Value Warehouse! This program is a true example of community collaboration. Companies recycle products, volunteers sort and stock items, while nonprofits keep their overhead low so more resources can be funneled into programming. These groups come together to create a #ForceForGood. https://lnkd.in/g58yFDZF #volunteer #holidaycheer #liveunited #communityparnters #forceforgood

This holiday season, many of our neighbors are living paycheck to paycheck and must make impossible decisions like choosing between paying for childcare or rent. ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. This refers to the 39% of Kansas households who work hard, but struggle to make ends meet, and often do not qualify for public assistance. Your United Way of the Plains donations help connect our ALICE community to organizations providing holiday meals, coats, and other financial assistance that can provide some relief and hope during the stressful holiday season. Donate today and help us unlock our end-of-year match so we can double our holiday impact✨️ https://lnkd.in/gwHPYFre #hopeshinesbrighter #forceforgood #liveunited #ALICE

Thanks for representing the #ForceForGood Amy Hawley and Logan Bradshaw, MPA! Special thanks to the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce for hosting so many wonderful local nonprofits today. This annual event is a great opportunity to connect with causes near and dear to you and to sign up to volunteer in the community!
The Sunrise Scrambler nonprofit showcase was a success. Thank you to the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce for hosting this great event. Along with the United Way of the Plains there were 26 nonprofit partners in the room. It was a great morning of networking and sharing what we have going on at the United Way. We always look forward to events where we can share a space with our nonprofit community and celebrate with each other. 💙 💛 ❤️
