About us

Since 1885, HumanKind Ministries (HK) has brought the Wichita community together to serve those living in poverty. Today that work includes providing shelter, affordable housing, basic needs, and supportive services. HK operates three homeless shelters and 155 safe and affordable, permanent housing units to help low-income Wichitans find stability and self-sufficiency. HK operates street outreach programs to provide basic care to the unsheltered homeless community. HK also powers Operation Holiday—the region's largest holiday assistance program that helps thousands get through the year's coldest and most expensive) months.

  • Volunteer spotlight During the 2023 Operation Holiday, over 41 businesses volunteered with HumanKind Ministries to help spread holiday cheer to individuals and families in Wichita. One of those gracious organizations was Credit Union of America. “A consistent concern among Credit Union of America employees is the well-being of those experiencing poverty and housing insecurity in Wichita,” says Jordan Poland, CUA Community Engagement Specialist. “By partnering with HumanKind through various volunteer initiatives, CUA employees actively contribute to addressing this critical issue, which has been identified as a top priority.” Thank you, Credit Union of America, for making our community a priority in your work!

  • Last week, we had the privilege of giving new shoes to a family of three staying at The Inn, including their two-year-old son, Odin. He was so excited to try on his new cowboy boots and test them out! "Odin grew out of his shoes a couple of weeks ago, so he had to go without," said Heather, Odin's mom. "It's just such a blessing to have these new shoes." At HumanKind, we are committed to helping families take steps toward stability and hope. Thank you to all of our supporters who make this critical work possible.
