Opening in Spring 2025, the Gipson Play Plaza at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh will be a public space for all ages with play spaces, art, a civic plaza, fountains, gardens, and more. Near the park’s entrance along Lake Wheeler Road, be sure to check out two recently completed utility line poles that pay homage to the park’s sunflower field by Raleigh-based artist, Thomas Sayre. These sunflower power poles feature 48 stainless steel petals between 8’ and 10’ long; an extraordinary display welcoming visitors to the future Gipson Play Plaza.
