Thanks to your generosity in 2024, we helped inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world through our programming at the Obama Foundation. We also made tremendous progress on the construction of the Obama Presidential Center, a 19-acre campus that will boast a world-class museum and other community-driven programming. Our mission is to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world.
About us
At the Obama Foundation, we are guided by a core belief: that ordinary people working together can change history. Our mission is to inspire those people to take action, empower them to change their world for the better, and connect them so they can achieve more together than they can alone. We were founded by community organizers, so when we seek change, we do it by bringing people together. That approach begins at home, on the South Side of Chicago, where we are building the Obama Presidential Center. The Center represents a historic opportunity for Chicago: a chance to build a world-class museum and public gathering space that celebrates our nation’s first African American President and First Lady, steps away from where he began his career, where she was raised, and where—together—they made their home. But that approach extends to all our work, whether it’s holding leadership training sessions in communities throughout the U.S., bringing local leaders together in countries around the world, working to support the global education of girls, or ensuring young men of color have pathways to opportunity. As President Obama has said, “we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together.” So join us.

🍁 Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends and savor the moments that bring us together. But it's also a reminder that giving back is just as important as giving thanks. In this 2013 photo, the Obamas are seen at a Thanksgiving service event at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, D.C.

In a nation as diverse as America, how can we navigate deep disagreements while still finding common ground that leads, then, to common action? That’s the focus of our third annual #DemocracyForum on December 5: exploring the idea of pluralism and building the habits and strategies that will help us not only disagree, but foster understanding for generations to come. This #VeteransDay, let’s take a moment to honor and reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women — including the many #ObamaLeaders who have served. One of those inspiring leaders is Jonathan Pride. Jonathan is the vice president of field operations for NPower, a national nonprofit that provides pathways to prosperity for veterans and young adults from underserved communities by helping them launch digital careers in information technology. Jonathan is a former US Army military intelligence officer and combat veteran who believes that access to education is the key to championing American democracy and breaking the vicious cycle of poverty.
