MacArthur Foundation supports creative people, effective institutions, and influential networks building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. ⚖🌿☮🌎 MacArthur is placing a few big bets that truly significant progress is possible on some of the world’s most pressing social challenges, including over-incarceration, global climate change, nuclear risk, and significantly increasing financial capital for the social sector. In addition to the MacArthur Fellows Program, the Foundation continues its historic commitments to the role of journalism in a responsible and responsive democracy; the strength and vitality of our headquarters city, Chicago; and generating new knowledge about critical issues.

Save the Date: Our Open Call on Infrastructure opens Nov. 13 and will support solutions to the shared challenges local outlets face in producing and disseminating the news. With technology evolving rapidly, local newsrooms are navigating new ways to create content, engage with audiences, secure revenue, and develop talent. Meanwhile, the dramatic decline in staffing at independent outlets has left many journalists and news leaders stretched thin. We’re particularly interested in ideas—either new or replicable—that can help make newsrooms more resilient and sustainable by addressing one of four key areas: 🔹Audience 🔹Operations 🔹People & 🔹Revenue. These ideas should strengthen the shared infrastructure at the local, regional, or national levels. Eligibility is limited to nonprofits. More details and the application will be available on our website starting Nov. 13. Register now for our first Information Session at 3 p.m. Nov. 22: https://bit.ly/4eaTIGO
