Yesterday wrapped up this year’s Internet Governance Forum! We had an amazing time speaking on panels, joining in on discussions, and connecting with stakeholders from across the globe. We couldn’t be prouder to see our global community come together in Riyadh with representation from chapters, alumni, standing groups, and our 2024 Youth Ambassadors.💙🌐 #IGF2024

At this year's #IGF2024, it was excellent to see the strong presence of our Internet Society youth and alumni. We have 4 youth ambassadors here engaging with the #IGF, and 29 alumni speaking over 25 sessions across the entire event. That means that of the 92 proposals accepted for this IGF, 27% included Internet Society alumni. This is a powerful example of this excellent group of new Internet champions! Our president and CEO, Sally Wentworth, spoke at the “Global Access, Global Progress: Managing the Challenges of Global Digital Adoption” panel at the #InternetGovernanceForum yesterday. “What we do is really look at a community-centered approach, a bottom-up approach to connectivity that ensures that people in their local communities are empowered, are resourced, are trained, and are skilled enough to build the networks for themselves,” she said. For many marginalized communities, the Internet is a lifeline, enabling them to connect, access resources, and have their voices heard. When the government of Manipur, India, first shut down the Internet in May 2023, violence escalated, people lost their lives, and communities were silenced. For the past month, Manipur has been shut off from the Internet again. We believe the Internet is for everyone. This giving season, consider donating to support our work to defend and advocate for the Internet: https://ow.ly/2quq50UrZYs

Shoutout to our Organization Member Advisory Council (OMAC) chair, Harald A. Summa, for stopping by the Everest Community Network in Nepal last month! In 2023, we helped build this network to connect the remote villages of Khunde and Khumjung. As a part of DE-CIX, Harald has helped operate Internet Exchange Points around the world, keeping Internet traffic fast, secure, and local. We are proud to have DE-CIX as an organization member!

I'm happy to share a blog post I wrote highlighting some of the key takeaways from our 2024 Global Encryption Day panel! I was joined by a group of experts who tackled the topic of encryption and how impacts the safety of young people online. It's a complex one, but glad to be contributing to the conversation as leaders around the world work toward solutions that meet the online safety needs of youth and families. #globalencryptionday #onlinesafety #encryption #thoughtprovoking https://lnkd.in/gJyxCRms
