Leveling the playing field in tech.
About us
The Kapor Center is building a future where the tech industry makes a positive impact on culture, society and the economy. We manifest the promise of technology by making the field more diverse, inclusive and better equipped to address society’s tough challenges and big opportunities. Right now there’s an unfair system stagnating innovation and hindering success in tech for Black, Latinx and women entrepreneurs. We challenge this system by educating, connecting and investing in those who bring new ideas, voices and innovations to the table, inspired by their own lived experience. The problem of diversity and inclusion in tech is complex and there’s no easy solution. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach to closing the gaps in the leaky tech pipeline by understanding the causes, designing solutions and leading change. Our pioneering work ranges from education and community building to research and investing. And we help others do the same so that the future of our field reflects the experience and diverse genius of our country.

What an inspiring & reflective way to end my 2024 work year than at the White House. Honored to been invited to join in the holiday festivities reflecting on the impactful & history work over the past years of the administration, agencies, and the leaders in front & behind the scenes that make it all work. In my work this past year at Kapor Center / Foundation got to deepen & collaborate with over 29 civil rights x tech orgs and 19 civic engagement partners to support a public innovation ecosystem that prioritizes public safety, civil liberties, and equity in tech; helped guide inclusive AI talent development in federal hiring pathways through inaugural AI Safety Institute Fellowships and public interest tech universities, supported partners engaging multi-stakeholder/sector to advance responsible AI. As we look to the next year, uncertainty abounds however conviction of mission & vision does not. This is a marathon not a sprint & it’s a life work. Huge thank you to all of our public servants who have dedicated their brilliance, heart, time to advance our country & empower communities. #HappyHolidays to all!

Excited to close out the year announcing our latest partnership aimed to foster the next gen of technical multi-disciplinary policy leaders with computer science background x social science x policy under Northwestern University School of Education and Social Policy with Sepehr Vakil and team! "The School of Education and Social Policy received a $1 million gift from the Kapor Foundation to help create the Center for Technology, Policy, and Opportunity at Northwestern University. The center will lead a range of initiatives, beginning with a new interdisciplinary graduate program designed to address challenges arising at the intersection of technology, society and policy. Applications for the master’s degree are currently open, with the first cohort of students beginning their studies in fall 2025. Debuting in fall 2025, the Master of Science in Technology, People, and Policy program (MTePP — pronounced “Em-Tepp”) addresses the largely unregulated growth of emerging technologies, with a sharp focus on ethics, environmental impact, human development and policy."
