As the end of 2024 approaches, the HAC for Nature and People Secretariat reflects on a year of great collaboration, closer support to country members for implementation, strengthened tools, and collective progress. From hosting regional workshops and matching requests to fostering collaboration and maintaining political momentum through key international engagements. This year has been a testament to the power of partnership. We are incredibly honored to have been awarded the prestigious The Earthshot Prize in the 'Revive Our Oceans' category, which will enable us to boost actions and support our countries towards the achievement of 30x30. Along the way, we’ve built a growing network of supporters who share our commitment to protecting nature and the communities that depend on it. To our partners and supporters, we extend our deepest gratitude—your support fuels our mission. To our HAC for N&P country members, we are extremely thankful for your engagement, trust, and commitment and we look forward to continuing to support you in this path towards 2030. As we look ahead to 2025, we’re more determined than ever to accelerate action toward achieving the protection of at least 30% of the planet’s land and ocean by 2030. Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year!❄️🥳 #HappyHolidays #30x30 Video Credit: Courtesy of National Geographic Society, Pristine Seas.

Since the adoption of Target 3, the HAC for Nature and People has proudly worked with countries worldwide to advance the 30x30 target, securing commitments from 120 nations to protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and ocean by 2030. As part of our mission, we remain dedicated to supporting our country members in implementing Target 3 and accelerating action toward achieving this critical target. At COP16, Chile announced plans to expand its Sustainability-Linked Bond Framework (SLB Framework) to include biodiversity-focused performance indicators tied to Target 3 - protecting 30% of ecosystems by 2030. As the first country to issue SLBs, Chile has linked its financing costs to progress on climate, gender, and now biodiversity targets, fostering accountability and innovation. This initiative will strengthen public-private collaboration and support global biodiversity goals. The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People commends the work and leadership of Chile! #30x30 #Biodiversityfinancing

A wise person once said, 'A successful team beats with one heart.' Almost three weeks after being named the Winner of the 2024 Earthshot Prize: 'Revive Our Oceans' category, it still feels surreal. As the HAC for N&P team celebrates in Washington DC, following the Awards in Cape Town, we reflect on how humbled, excited, and committed we are about this recognition. We look forward to continuing to work with The Earthshot Prize Team and the extraordinary 14 Finalists. A special thank you to our co-chairs, Costa Rica and France, our 120 country members, and 62 organizations that have supported the HAC for N&P on this journey. We look forward to continuing this path together towards #30x30. #EarthshotPrize #HACSecretariatteam #ocean Rita Maria El Zaghloul, Odile Conchou, Jason Dozier, Juliana Echeverri, Domoina Rakotobe, Kathrin Seel, Valentina Oben, MSc

With only 17.6% of protected lands and 8.4% of protected oceans, further efforts are needed to conserve at least 30% of land and 30% of the world’s oceans. Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to engage various representatives of HAC members working in DC’s Embassies to shed light on CBD #COP16 outcomes and next steps. Thank you Maxime Millefert and all who attended for participating in the rich exchanges!

🌍 In 2022, nearly 200 countries pledged to the #30x30 goal aiming to protect at least 30% of the planet's land and oceans. And as #COP29 unfolds, decision-makers have a pivotal opportunity to guide us toward a sustainable future. A future where natural disasters—hurricanes, heat waves, floods—are mitigated through the restoration of nature. The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People remain steadfast in its commitment to support its members in the global target. 🌱 #NatureNow #CommonwealthForClimate Credit: Courtesy of National Geographic Society, Pristine Seas.
