MANAGER - PEOPLE, CULTURE, & GOVERNANCE

Job Title: Manager – People, Culture, & Governance

Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid Position)

Organization Type: 501 (c)6 Non-Profit

Job Summary: The Manager of People, Culture & Governance will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive work environment and ensuring the smooth operation of both HR-related functions within our organization as well as governance functions for the volunteer components. This individual will be responsible for assisting with payroll, managing employee relations, ensuring compliance with California state regulations, and overseeing the onboarding and offboarding processes. Additionally, this role involves working closely with the Executive Director (ED) to support the mission and vision through effective governance practices.  DEI will be a foundational component to all aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll & Employee Relations:
    • Oversee the payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, and independently resolving any discrepancies.
    • Lead employee relations efforts, addressing concerns proactively and fostering a collaborative workplace
  • Compliance, Regulations & Training:
    • Ensure compliance with California state employment laws and regulations, making independent decisions on necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
    • Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
    • Develop and implement staff retreats & trainings in collaboration with the Social Committee
    • Identify and coordinate training and development opportunities for staff to enable individual growth and improve organizational performance
  • Onboarding & Offboarding:
    • Manage the onboarding process for new hires, providing a welcoming and informative experience.
    • Oversee the offboarding process, ensuring a smooth transition upon employee departures and administering exit interviews.
  • Primary Office Operations Responsibilities:
    • Manage requisition processes and policies, tracking all necessary expenses to ensure employees have the necessary equipment, technology, subscriptions, resources, and supplies to perform their respective tasks in a hybrid work environment.
    • Support the IT and telecommunications functions of the Association by regularly connecting with the respective contractors and helping to coordinate network changes for staff. Review IT tickets for trends in technology challenges and help problem solve as needed.
  • Governance:
    • Partner with the Executive Director to advance the governance model of CAMFT, aligning with the organization’s mission and vision.
    • Manage governance practices for staff liaisons, to insure consistency in agenda creation, briefing materials, and presentations.
    • Ability to oversee the nominations and elections process, ensuring a fair and transparent system.
    • Manage the nominations and appointments process for volunteer leadership positions.
    • Assist the Executive Director with volunteer matters requiring counseling or disciplinary action.
    • Ensure organizational compliance with CAMFT bylaws and policies.
    • Maintain and update critical governing documents, such as minutes, bylaws, articles of incorporation, and board policies.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Governance Committee on the annual board orientation planning and development.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:
    • Partner with the Executive Director to advance the DEI culture of CAMFT, aligning with the organization’s mission and vision.
    • Assist with the creation of educational and institutional deliverables to support the DEI committee’s work
    • Ability to serve as staff liaison for CAMFT’s DEI committee
  • Other Duties as assigned
    • While performing the responsibilities outlined above there may be additional tasks that are assigned as an integral part of the CAMFT team.
  • Qualifications:
    • Minimum 2 years proven experience in HR management, preferably working in a trade association or membership environment
    • SHRM or other HR certification is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of California employment laws and regulations.
    • Strong organizational management, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Experience in non-profit governance and working with volunteer committees is highly desirable.

Reports to:  Managing Director, Finance & Operations

Salary Range: $92,924 - $112,209 (Exempt)

Location: Remote-hybrid with in-person meetings based at San Diego HQ
