Here’s a pro tip for anyone adding a Stripe DNS code string to their website 👀 Double-check for extra characters at the end of the string! Sometimes hidden characters like spaces or full-stops get added. To the naked eye, you’d never know something was off, but it can throw off the ENTIRE integration, causing errors and headaches for everyone. A quick once-over can save you HOURS of troubleshooting. Automation 101: Tackling the basic client headaches that we see all the time. Today’s topic is Web Enquiries Are you leaving money on the table? So many website enquiry forms simply send an email to an already full company inbox (or worse, to an individual's inbox) for action. Enquiries often get lost in the email tsunami and a response is delayed, or there is no response at all. In either option potential sales are likely to be missed. So what to do. The simple answer is to get your process and systems organised. In essence, the web enquiry needs to be captured in an organised manner, where it can be viewed, tracked and action taken. This can be as simple as having all enquiries automatically logged in a spreadsheet. Or better still, automatically log them all in a CRM or task management system. (these systems do not have to be complicated or expensive - there are 100s of options out there) If you can make 1 extra sale that would otherwise be missed, it would likely pay for the cost of implementing the solution! This kind of integration solution is normally straightforward to build, and at Big Sky Vision we do lots of them - it is always where we start when looking at sales and marketing processes. I've made this point before but it's becoming more and more stark. The people that should be dominating platforms like this are the people with the real hard skills to code, develop and implement solutions. Instead it's dominated by relentless strategy and sales conferences, posts , talks and forums. Never has the true tech engineer role been more diminished at a time when they are truly the only ones that can make the change happen. it's oddly unique to tech roles as well. It's like having a team of trained qualified architects and engineers but instead of them discussing their problems they send the marketing team out to find out what everyone else is doing. If I'm down for heart surgery I want to talk to the surgeon , the anesthetist , the senior nurse. Not the finance team. I'm not dismissing the finance team but the ones I want best informed and strategizing are the product owners and engineers. Firms with a defined tech product at their core need to be driven by the software engineers with finance , marketing , HR reporting into them. Then you become truly tech and innovation led.

Code is getting cheaper and cheaper to manufacture. So, what does that mean for developers? Here is your call to action: become an expert in your business and your customers. Orchestration of people and computers will be the future of development. This means we all need to get more skilled in not only executing on coding tasks, but understanding why we are doing what we are doing. - Who is my customer? - How does our business meet those customers where they are? - What am I building and how is that creating value?
