District Heat Networks this week received €67m / GBP£57m gov funding in UK The funds are provided by UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero under their Green Heat Network Fund ( GHNF) which is admisistered by Triple Point Heat Networks Investment Management 'HNIP'​ assisted by GEMSERV LIMITED. In the UK the GHNF funds up to 50% of an elegible District Heat Network (DHN) project’s total commercialisation and construction costs. 5 District Heat Network (DHN) projects across the UK, from London to Leeds and the North of England, will share the UK Gov funding £57m fund and will serve 17,000 new DHN customers. Of particular interest here in Ireland is the LeedsPipes project which will receive the largest amount of GBP£24.5m. This will be used to extend the DHN distributing waste heat from a municipal Waste to Enegy (WtE) plant to 2000 homes, businesses, and public buildings. A very similar scheme is planned in Ireland by Dublin City Council - the Dublin District Heating Scheme (DDHS) to use waste heat from the ENCYCLIS WtE plant to serve new devlopments in Dublin's Docklands #eng4climate #letsrethinkheat #districtheatnetworks https://lnkd.in/e3znK_Un

Strengthening interconnections with neighbouring countries can significantly support the objectives of energy security and affordability, while also advancing our transition to clean energy. Here are a few points to consider: 1.     Enhanced Energy Security: By increasing interconnections with neighbouring grids, we can diversify our energy sources and reduce reliance on any single source or type of energy. This diversification is crucial for managing supply risks and ensuring a stable energy supply, particularly during periods of high demand or unforeseen disruptions. 2.     Cost Efficiency: Interconnected energy markets can provide access to cheaper energy sources, enabling the UK to benefit from the most cost-effective clean energy options available across the region. This can help in bringing down energy bills for households and businesses, aligning with the goal of reducing energy costs permanently. 3.     Optimised Renewable Energy Use: Greater interconnections facilitate the integration of renewable energy by allowing surplus energy generated in one country to be used in another. This cross-border cooperation can maximise the utilisation of renewable resources, reduce waste, and support the achievement of zero-carbon electricity by 2030. 4.     Economic and Job Growth: Building and maintaining interconnections can create significant economic opportunities and jobs within the UK. It also positions the UK as a key player in a broader European energy market, potentially attracting investments and fostering innovation in the energy sector. 5.     International Collaboration and Climate Leadership: Strengthening ties with our neighbours through energy interconnections reinforces our commitment to international climate action. It sets a strong example of cooperation and shared responsibility, enhancing the UK's leadership role in global efforts to combat climate change.
