In 2024, an estimated 92% of UK local authorities reported on Scope 1 and 2 emissions, but supply chain emissions – a key part of Scope 3 – remain largely overlooked. So, how can local authorities make meaningful progress in tracking and reporting these emissions? In our latest blog, SmartCarbon Consultant, Jack Spence, breaks down the challenges local authorities face in collecting supply chain data and identifying carbon hotspots. Plus, he shares actionable insights on how they can drive real progress in 2025. https://loom.ly/hCDHsg4

This interactive map from Carbon Brief pulls together research from across the globe that shows how changes in the climate are impacting extreme weather. It’s a stark reminder that the climate crisis affects us all—and without meaningful action, these impacts will only intensify. https://lnkd.in/gjkuuG73

Reflecting on a busy couple of days at #NZNEESummit. It was great to hear about regional strengths and climate solutions, innovations and ideas. Good to see the ambition and willingness to collaborate and share knowledge and encouraging to see the increased numbers of delegates and extended 2 day agenda. Well done Jess Cook and team at Net Zero North East England it was an incredible achievement. However, at SmartCarbon we would of course ask, what is the impact? We all know there really is only one measurement that really matters if the NE Region is to play its part in addressing the escalating climate crisis, and achieve its Net Zero ambition, and that is the carbon that reaches the atmosphere. Are these initiatives resulting in the required urgent deep cuts in emissions? It would be good to see more clarity on the annual regional tCO2e emissions and progress against targets, within the region's carbon budget for 1.5 degrees. This is critical to underpin discussions around mitigation, adaptation and offsets (carbon markets). At SmartCarbon we were pleased to provide our expertise to measure the impact of the event, and to talk to clients old and new, about organisational performance, Carbon Reduction Targets and Plans, but we do love to see the numbers and would welcome increased measurement and transparency of regional performance, and most importantly, evidence of reduced emissions, whilst also being mindful of supply chain impacts as a consequence of local consumption. #NZNEESummit24 #NetZeroNE #CleanerGreenerFairer

Pleased to support suppliers to Newcastle Hospitals with this webinar on carbon targets, reporting and reduction, to meet procurement requirements. Learn more about the free tools and resources available to suppliers.
On the 6th November, 137 suppliers attended our webinar on Carbon Measurement, Reporting and Reduction. Thank you to SmartCarbon® for delivering this session, this has helped The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust progress the completeness and accuracy of reported emissions. You can read more about our carbon footprint here: https://lnkd.in/eCamfAFK From this report (pages 12 – 15 and 28-29) you can see: ✅ 40% of our spend is with suppliers with data on the Supplier Dashboard. 😲 Our footprint plus (which includes cat 1 purchased goods and services, and cat 2 Capital) represents > 73% of our total footprint. 📈 As the accuracy and completeness of our scope 3 hybrid result improves, the total tCO2e associated with supply chain emissions has increased significantly. This is why it is mandatory for all active suppliers, regardless of size or sector, to engage in our 5 Step Net Zero Carbon Supplier Framework, to measure, report and reduce emissions, this includes sharing a published Net Zero Commitment (NZC) and Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP). There are a range of free support tools available: https://lnkd.in/e6ky29pZ For any suppliers that missed the webinar, a recording is available on the Sustainable Supplier webpage here: https://lnkd.in/eYCY9hs3 #SustainableProcurement #CarbonFootprint #Scope3 #NetZero #CRP #PPN06/21
