We are deeply concerned about the proposed Tourism Levy, as outlined by The Highland Council, which has now launched a 12-week public consultation period for the proposed Visitor Levy Scheme. The levy, set at a proposed rate of 5%, would operate across the Highlands, a region heavily reliant on tourism as a key economic driver. It will have a wide-reaching impact on local businesses, from restaurants and shops to attractions and transportation services. The introduction of a 5% Tourism Levy risks potentially deterring visitors from choosing the Highlands as their destination. For a region that thrives on its reputation as a world-class tourism hub, this could lead to devastating consequences for businesses, jobs, and the broader local economy. We urge The Highland Council to carefully assess the potential economic repercussions of the levy and to work collaboratively with industry stakeholders to ensure that tourism in the Highlands remains accessible, sustainable, and vibrant. #highlands #Tourismlevy #highlandcouncil

We discussed a LOT in our recent Complete Experience workshops in colaboration with ASVA : Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions and this time around one question in particular has stuck with me. ❔ What values do you hold your visitor attraction to ❔ We have discussed being environmentally conscious for an age but we know that seems to impact our purchasing decisions less than we expect (or maybe just that we survey select that as more important than we actually behave when ££s are on the line). What other values might drive us to revisit or resist a place we love?

Do you want young people you employ to have basic employability skills when they start a job? I am guessing the answer is yes. My son has just started his work experience week this morning. Thank you to Tony Buck at Oasis Studio Group Ltd for taking the time to showcase how their business works, for him to learn some softer skills, and to see how something he is interested in is put into action. We can't expect young people entering the world of work to have all the skills they need and to understand how a sector works unless businesses take a role in preparing young people for work. We have to collaborate with schools to achieve this. Shaping raw talent usually brings the best outcomes for the business in, productivity, loyalty and team spirit. As part of our recent downtime series – designed to highlight the benefits of downtime, Angellica Bell interviewed Sarah Bissell, Deputy Director of Fundraising for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH) – Premier Inn’s charity partner. Sarah gave us a great insight into why downtime is so vital when working in the charity sector. Working for GOSH, Sarah sees many families going through extremely difficult situations... so, when she gets home, she makes sure to spend quality time with her own family, including her two daughters. Sarah also makes time for exercise too. 🏃‍♂️ ‘What we do is so exciting and an amazing opportunity. The way that we do that is by going out and inspiring people to give and it’s very tempting to put a lot of your life into it! It’s taken me a long time to get there, but getting the answers you need for the big stuff is fed by seeing the outside world, which is why downtime is so important’. When it comes to finding the right balance, breaking things up and cutting off from the 9 to 5, you know that, at Premier Inn, you’ll always be able to make time for downtime. Looking forward to hosting this event in a few weeks. Will be great to share networking advice with the trainees. What's the best networking tip you have/you've heard?! We were chatting about this last night at the Sheffield Young Professionals October Drinks Social. A couple that came up were: 📝 When telling people your job don't just say one word e.g. Lawyer, Teacher, Engineer. Give a lil extra something to help who you're talking to think of a follow up question & keep the convo flowing. 📝 What to do when you're stuck in one of *those* convos - always have a drink whether it's a pint of beer or a pint of water, so when it's finished you can excuse yourself and head to the bar and reenter the room ready to start a new conversation 📝 No matter how long you've been networking, walking into a room of people who are already talking is always super awkward, you're not the only one feeling a bit nervous.
