Comic Relief Community Fund Organisations in England can apply for grants of up to £5,000 through the Comic Relief Community Fund to help support the delivery of services and activities that benefit local communities. Funding is available to organisations with an income of less than £250,000 for applications under one the below areas: Tackling immediate impacts of hardship - Organisations that directly address the immediate impacts of poverty, including providing food, warmth, shelter and financial advice such as foodbanks, community hubs, homeless shelters or welfare advice agencies. Building resilience to poverty and hardship - Organisations that deliver activities to empower people to take positive steps out of poverty in the longer term. Examples include skills training, job search, volunteering, mental resilience and financial confidence skills. Working to support equity and inclusion - Organisations that champion social justice, diversity and inclusion. This could involve service or projects to tackle inequalities which can lead to poverty and exclusion including gender, sexuality, age, race, language or ability. Working to support climate justice - Supporting activities that improve energy efficiency, environmental education and resilience-building within communities most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, such communities at risk of flooding or urban heat islands and those more vulnerable to extreme weather events, such as older people, isolated communities or people with disabilities. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 - 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 Top line findings from The Foundation Practice Report as shared in today's Third  Sector article. 🔍 Sample of 100 Foundations 📊 More are reporting diversity (18 this year v 11 last year) but the findings show the stark reality of how much more has to be done. 👭🏻  Indigo Trust reported 100% non male paid staff (I like their page on EDI by the way) 👩🏽  Esmeé Fairburn Foundation still leads the way with diversity of race (non white) at 23% 🙎🏿 Friends Provident Foundation scores well on gender (non male) at 71% 👨🏽‍🦯 Only 4 Foundations reported more than 17% of staff as disabled, this is the % given in the UK census. 8 reported fewer than 17% .  We know that some don't disclose disability for fear of career limiting bias - that's for another post though... So the question is how do we speed up this process? Because we all know that 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝘃𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀. ❓ 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆? I am Indian, female, partially sighted with 16 years in the NFP sector.... how would you attract me? Lets use me as a case study 🧐 ...A few years back I was approached to work for a charity in the diversity space. At the last interview I asked the question ' what are your plans to get ANY non white trustees on board given your core purpose'  It didn't go down well at all, I saw the temperature in the room drop to freezing 🥶. They felt that question was not appropriate 😲. I thought it was THE most appropriate question to ask! Obviously, I didn't pursue that role, as they were not ready to reach that tipping point needed to be at the forefront of living and breathing their core purpose. Could this be the first thing this Government has said that I agree with? 😮 Lisa Nandy’s powerful words on the “national shame” of cuts to youth services hit home. Having worked closely with young people, I know first-hand how vital youth clubs are—not just as safe spaces, but as spaces that can transform the trajectory of a young person’s life. You see, youth clubs are more than just a place for young people to stay warm or grab a bite to eat. They offer a unique space for young people to grow, connect, and explore. Most importantly, they allow young people to be challenged and challenge. This is incredibly important, as most times, society loves to tell young people what they can’t do without having a chance to hear from them. Youth clubs are spaces where young people are encouraged to show up as their authentic selves without the need to perform or meet expectations. And through that authenticity, something magical often happens: they gain confidence, make friendships, and discover the power of their own potential. Parents and guardians also place immense trust in these clubs, knowing their children are safe, supported, and cared for. This peace of mind is invaluable. But most importantly, youth services allow young people to simply be young people—without pressure or judgment. I’m by no means a youth worker, but from my experience as I’ve learned that it isn’t our role to tell young people what to do but to show them what’s possible. We guide, encourage, and equip them with the tools and confidence they need to turn their ideas into reality and shape their own futures. Youth services aren’t just a nice-to-have even though that’s what its been like for so long; they’re a lifeline. Investing in these spaces is an investment in hope, growth, and opportunity for the next generation. We owe it to our young people—and to society as a whole—to ensure these spaces not only survive but continue to grow and develop. The call for a National Youth Strategy is more than timely, it’s essential. It’s time to listen, act, and build a future that believes in our youth and instills that belief in them. #YouthWork #NationalYouthStrategy #InvestInYouth #FutureGenerations
