I think the demand for niche skills in renewables is skyrocketing. But... there needs to be more openness to those from similar sectors. As the sector grows, so do the complexities involved in projects. It’s about seamlessly integrating new technologies into existing systems, managing large-scale projects, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. I believe that some companies are finding themselves in a tough spot. They need experts who not only understand the technical aspects but also have the ability to adapt to new technologies and regulations quickly. The pool of candidates who tick all these boxes is limited. This is where the challenge lies. I believe companies need to think outside the box—whether it’s upskilling existing employees, partnering with educational institutions, or offering competitive packages that attract the best talent from around the world. This initiative aims to ensure ethical sourcing and robust supply chains, contributing to the company’s ambitious renewable energy goals. 🔋 🔍 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 🔍 The framework supports the verification, review, and due diligence of supply chains, ensuring traceability and segregation protocols to maintain ethical sourcing practices. 🛒 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 🛒 Solar panels may be procured by Scottish Water, Scottish Water Horizons , or approved Framework suppliers. ⚡ 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 ⚡ Scottish Water Horizons aims to deliver 90GWh of new renewable energy projects across the estate, incorporating both established and innovative technologies. 🏗️ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 🏗️ Installations will range from small-scale (25-50kW) to large projects (up to 5MW), with occasional exceptions exceeding 5MW. 📅 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 📅 An existing framework with four suppliers, in place since 2021, has been paused due to concerns over forced labor in supply chains, particularly related to raw materials sourced from Xinjiang. 📝 𝗢𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 📝 Scottish Water's Procurement and Supply Chain (PSC) function continues to seek ethically clean supply chains while monitoring industry and legislative developments. 📈 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 📈 The DPS is open for applications until 2032, with no cap on the number of suppliers who can join. From a recruitment perspective, we are seeing significant demand in several key areas: 🔌 Grid Connection: Engineers, Managers and those experienced in Grid applications. ✅ Commissioning: Via Project Management or a Consultancy, experience with HV substations and commissioning. 📈 Whole Lifecycle Project Management: Project Managers, Contract Managers & Consultants. ⚡ Electrical Engineers: Electricians, Site Managers and HV Engineers. These roles are critical in driving forward our onshore and offshore projects, however we've found that many companies struggle to find qualified and experienced people as highlighted in the report. Doubling wind power by 2030? Since the GE, the Labour government announced a raft of changes for the wind industry which have included the setting up of GB energy, lifting the defacto ban on onshore wind (no major onshore wind farms have been built in the last 10 years due to planning rules- NIMBYism) and an increase in overall budgets for allocation rounds etc. But what does this mean in reality? Few questions that come to mind- will GB energy own/manage assets? Can the UK really double wind power by 2030- given consenting, grid connections and supply chain issues? UK-Ireland unveil ‘landmark’ renewable energy agreement 🇬🇧🇮🇪 The UK and Ireland have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support offshore renewable energy and increase interconnectivity. both countries will increase cooperation for developing offshore renewable energy, explore further electricity interconnection opportunities and enhance security of gas supplies. Several sectors could be set to benefit from the MoU. This notably includes offshore renewable generation, including floating offshore wind in the Celtic and Irish Seas, as well as interconnection and offshore hybrid assets.
