Tomorrow (Thursday 7 November), Woking’s Voluntary Sector Fair, ‘Working Together for Woking’, returns to Woking Leisure Centre bringing together more than 90 voluntary groups and organisations. The event is the largest local voluntary sector networking opportunity of its kind, inviting groups to connect and strengthen the range of support on offer to Woking residents. It is also free to the public to drop-in anytime from 10am until 2pm, giving local people the chance to find out more about the community support available on their doorsteps or to sign-up as a volunteer. NEWS > Grant Thornton Value for Money review published A public interest report into the council’s governance arrangements relating to past investment decisions and strategy has been published today (Tuesday 5 November). The report, compiled by independent external auditors, Grant Thornton, highlights historic shortcomings in the council’s financial, governance and legal arrangements going back decades. It concludes that the council failed to ensure ‘best value’ during that time due to a lack of financial control, risk management and effective governance arrangements.
