HR Wallingford has contributed to the groundbreaking Mareterra project in Monaco, recently inaugurated by H.S.H. Prince Albert II. As the world’s first eco-district built on reclaimed land, this remarkable achievement is a testament to innovation, sustainability, and design excellence. Our team was proud to play a role in bringing this vision to life by creating the physical models that helped shape Mareterra’s design. These models were key to visualising the project’s complex architecture, blending cutting-edge technology with eco-conscious urban planning. Congratulations to all involved in this milestone development, which redefines what’s possible in sustainable living. You will support the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and support of our specialist equipment designed for hydrodynamic modelling laboratories. Examples of the equipment you will be working on include: hydrodynamic instrumentation, wave generation systems; absorbing beaches; tidal generators; towing carriages; instrument positioning systems and remote platforms. As a specialist water-focused consultancy, we build and test scale models to help us explore developments in the coastal and marine environments. Our facilities are some of the largest in the world. To support this work as well as the work of other national and international research and commercial facilities, we develop specialist equipment, software and instrumentation. Alongside delivering world class engineering solutions to our clients, you will be helping us develop and capitalise new, innovative technologies to enhance our product portfolio and continue the organisation’s growth in strategic markets. The role is UK based (in either our Wallingford or Manchester office), but provides opportunities for travel to meet our clients around the world. Applications close 31 December 2024 More details at https://bit.ly/4486882101

We are happy to be a recipient of this match funding to support the development of a National Deep Water Testing Facility for Floating Offshore Wind projects. This funding will enable pre-development work for the facility in the UK, further solidifying our commitment to solving complex engineering challenges faced by the offshore wind sector and supporting the growth in renewables and transition to net-zero. 💡 Increasing the capacity and capability of our domestic offshore wind supply chain will be crucial in delivering the UK’s #CleanEnergy transition. Today, we’re announcing that 13 successful organisations are set to share nearly £5m in #funding from The Crown Estate through the initial round of our Supply Chain Accelerator, which launched in May. This funding will help kick-start important projects in the #OffshoreWind #SupplyChain, ranging from those enabling floating wind platform and anchoring and mooring systems, to those supporting the #skills transition. Our match funding will contribute to a combined development #investment of over £9m which, if the opportunities successfully conclude their respective development stages, could lead to more than £400m of capital investment. Read more in the press release below, including who the successful organisations are, and keep an eye on our channels in the coming weeks where we’ll be sharing more details on the projects! https://lnkd.in/eYvSuAay Blue Abyss Global | Celtic Sea Power | Gabriel Engineering Ltd. The BBC News interviewed Ian Chandler about our work developing a tsunami simulator – work, which was kick-started by the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. The interview coincides with Ian joining a symposium today, with an expert line-up of tsunami speakers in London to commemorate and reflect on developments since the Boxing Day tsunami of 20 years ago. Speakers will present research that has increased understanding of the science of tsunami, changed the design of buildings and infrastructure to mitigate tsunami effects, and improved preparedness actions needed for communities to become more resilient. Ian will be talking about HR Wallingford’s contribution, working with partners, in developing a tsunami simulator. We’ve come a long way, but more can still be done. We’re now working to be able to generate return flow which has a significant influence on the post event scour profile. If you aren't able to make it to the symposium, you can find out more about the development of our tsunami simulator in our short film: https://lnkd.in/eBrnvPnj BBC news story can be read here - https://lnkd.in/e-eW42wU

If you’d like to visit our UK Ship Simulation Centre, CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) Central Southern Branch is organising a rare chance to see this facility in action on 10 December. The centre houses the latest evolution of our advanced navigation simulation technology, including four real-time ship simulators comprising two ship bridges and two tug bridges. Each simulator's fully functioning bridge is surrounded by a 360 degree simulated field of view. Mark McBride will be welcoming visitors to the centre at our headquarters in Oxfordshire - Howbery Business Park - and demonstrating this impressive facility. Delegates may even get the opportunity to pilot a vessel. The event starts at 17:30 and finishes at 19:00. To attend, you’ll need to register: https://lnkd.in/ensj7S4Q
