🌱 Thrilled to have participated in the AlgaEurope Congress in Athens, where I had the privilege of presenting on “The Importance of Infrastructure within LCA of Microalgae Production and Processing Facilities.” As a Graduate LCA Consultant at Decerna , I’ve been working with my team to recover and analyze the data needed to build an LCA model that evaluates the emissions associated with the construction and operation of microalgae production and processing sites. It’s been a fascinating journey, highlighting the critical role infrastructure plays in ensuring sustainability in this innovative sector. A huge thank you to PhytoBloom - Microalgae by Necton and GreenCoLab for their support throughout this project! Your collaboration has been invaluable in shaping the outcomes of this work. Engaging with the algae community at AlgaEurope has been inspiring, and I’m excited to continue contributing to the sustainable growth of the industry. #AlgaEurope2024 #Sustainability #LCA #Microalgae #Decerna #Necton #GreenCoLab

One amazing part of AlgaEurope was allowing us to spend time with other algae LCA experts. Here’s a photo of (most of) the microalgae #LCA experts in attendance. Lais Galileu SperanzaGreenCoLab, with whom we collaborate a lot and at the moment on the REALM algae project Enrica Uggetti - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya who presented the environmental impacts and the cost-effectiveness of a biofertilizer from microalgae grown in wastewater Léa Braud – Representing the EABA - European Algae Biomass Association and heavily involved in harmonizing microalgae LCA Then from Decerna... Gladys Castillo Leal, who presented this week on the LCA work on the infrastructure for the REALM algae project Jonathan Forbes, who presented on the Brilliant Planet Carbon Dioxide Removal systems LCA Tom Bradley, who leads LCA at Decerna #LCA #ACV #microalgae #greenchemistry #macroalgae #carboncapture #DAC #CCUS #CDR #CCS #sustainability #biology

  • 🌍 Highlights from Algae Europe 2024! 🌿 A big shoutout to Jonathan Forbes Forbes, our LCA Consultant, for his incredible presentation at Algae Europe 2024 in Athens! 🎤🇬🇷 His talk, "Assessment of the Brilliant Planet Carbon Dioxide Removal System," provided a deep dive into Decerna’s Life Cycle Assessment (#LCA) based due diligence of the microalgae based Brilliant Planet carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) system, which is based in #Morrocco. It is vital that all carbon capture projects have appropriate LCA due diligence to ensure that we are certain they genuinely are taking carbon from the ecosphere, and this is something Decerna undertakes for a wide range of carbon capture clients. The work was undertaken using openLCA, which provides a transparent platform, ideal for due diligence projects. We followed the European Comissions #LCA4CCU methodology, to ensure comparability with other LCA studies of carbon capture. 👏 Thank you to everyone who attended and engaged with his insights! Thank you to the event organisers AlgaEurope, and to all our partners who supported this work. #LifeCycleAssessment #ACV #sustainability #carboncapture #CCUS #CCS #CDR #DAC
