Innovate UK's Mike Biddle chaired a panel discussion which launched the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) latest report, ‘the UK Hydrogen Innovation Opportunity’. The report published by HII on the 24th of April combines key insights from over 250 businesses and 12 sector bodies, including public funding data analysis conducted by Innovate UK Business Connect. This comes at a key time in hydrogen innovation as the global hydrogen technology market has been predicted to reach £1trn annually by 2050. 🌟 Crondall Energy Supports Net Zero Technology Centre’s Energy Hubs Report 🌟 Crondall Energy has supported Net Zero Technology Centre with the new Energy Hubs: Fill the Backbone Report.  The team made significant contributions to the 🌍 Energy Resources and 🔌 Microgrids sections. This ground breaking report focuses on the infrastructure, long-term investment, and technological innovations necessary to establish commercially viable and efficient energy hubs across Scotland. The Net Zero Technology Centre phased plan aims to develop a network of energy hubs, positioning Scotland as a major player in the green hydrogen market.  By 2045, the country could produce up to 35 GW of hydrogen, unlocking its potential as an international exporter of green hydrogen23. UK Carbon Regulator is essential for the functioning of a net zero economy - Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) released its Operationalising a Carbon Regulator report, which aims to guide the development of a robust regulatory framework for carbon accounting in the UK. ESC states that a Carbon Regulator would be “crucial” to the standardisation of carbon accounting practices, emphasising that the implementation of a Carbon Regulator is essential for the functioning of a net zero economy by: reducing investment risks; building investor, business, and consumer confidence; and levelling the playing field for innovators. The report outlines that a UK Carbon Regulator could utilise its potential position as a first mover to promote the credibility of UK low carbon industry, while demonstrating the value of nationally coordinated carbon accounting regulations. The Rheidol hydropower plant, near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. For six decades, the Rheidol Hydropower Scheme near Aberystwyth has been a testament to the power of renewable energy, powering 35,000 homes with its 49 MW capacity. Built before the green energy focus, it combines innovation with environmental care, featuring fish "lifts" and "ladders" to aid local wildlife. 💧 Spanning 162 square km, it draws water from Nant-y-Moch, Dinas, and Cwm Rheidol reservoirs. Nant-y-Moch, the largest, holds 26 billion litres of water. 👷‍♂️ Constructed with a £10m investment, the project employed 1,800 people at its peak and now supports 40 jobs. Owned by IHA members Statkraft, who are Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, Rheidol is the largest hydro scheme of its kind in Wales and England. Really pleased to publish Biomass UK's* first 100 days vision, setting out the priorities and key policy steps the next Government should make within the first 100 days of coming to office. Much of the work behind the policies outlined in the vision is already well underway, so delivering these policy asks is practical and achievable. It’s also time critical, given the delays and uncertainty the industry continues to face. If we are going to meet the challenge of climate change, we need to actively remove carbon from the atmosphere, while also delivering low carbon power. The delivery of Bioenergy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS), using sustainable biomass, has a critical role to play in that. We also need the right policy landscape to enable this. That's why we're calling on the next Government to act fast to establish a viable market for the deployment of negative emissions technologies, like BECCS, critical to meeting our net zero targets. https://lnkd.in/eFjBjPwB Energy UK - an excellent response to the latest REMA consultation for which I support the general views of EnergyUK's membership, specifically around protection needed for existing PPA deals (either via an IPP and the CfD, corporate or utility off-takers) "Energy UK members believe that full grandfathering is essential for all existing assets where investment decisions were made on the basis of national pricing and lacked certainty regarding the final REMA reform package. This includes CfDs, CM agreements, and CPPAs. The Government must promptly clarify the process of grandfathering to uphold investor confidence." The UK renewable energy market is making exceptional progress under constrains around ambiguity of future legislation and difficulties faced with grid connection queues. Great work is on-going to ensure that the UK market is equipped for a future that will be dominated by renewable energy, inherent intermittency and storage, however we need to ensure that we provide the most desirable market signals possible to ensure continued (and increased) levels of investment.
