This is the approx. amount of money I have personally invested during my IRONMAN journey 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🔹 Competition entries & attendance for IRONMAN Wales & The Long Course Weekend…no free charity spaces for either event. 🔹 All the kit I’ve needed for 3 disciplines - I started this journey as a complete novice and had nothing! 🔹 Nutrition. Oh my days, so much on nutrition. 🔹 Time. I cannot put a price on the time I have dedicated to training over the past year, and more importantly, the time I’ve spent away from my family. I definitely have a new found respect for athletes, as I never imagined how much time, effort & expense goes into being competition ready 🙌🏼 Almost a year of training for this one event and in 2 weeks I will be: 🏊♂️ 2.4 miles 🚴♂️ 112 miles 🏃♂️ 26 miles So grateful to everyone that has supported me, including these amazing businesses, plus my recent sponsor The HR Dept South Wales 🙏🤩 Absolutely over the moon that my fundraising pot is up to £2280!! The hub was jam packed today! It was great to hear that the Alabaré Veteran Self build scheme is nearly in the final stages. I am so pleased we have got this off the ground. Another super busy day at the hub today. There was nearly 80 of us today (I even had to source more mugs!!). Special thanks today to Francesca Bamsey and Hannah from Hugh James who ran a very busy legal clinic. We are so privileged to have you visit us on a saturday. Not only does the hub provide FREE 🥪 food and refreshments ☕️there is a wide range of support offered. Truly grateful 🙏 to Nicola Sharlot who helps with benefits/housing:pip and war pension appeals etc and Cllr Teresa Heron who is on hand for local issues. We have a great mix of all 3 services and it was great to see new female veterans today too. Desperately searching for a new venue now as we are bursting at the seams with new members every week. A massive thank you to The Veterans' Foundation. Their support help us support of in excess of 70 veterans per week at our hub. In just one year we have managed to claw back over £67,000 worth of benefits for veterans and their families. Happy New Year!! We were back in force this morning. A bustling hub and it was great to see so many veterans and families after the christmas break. Considering we dont open until 10 it was practically full by 0930 🥳 They certainly missed it. A special thank you this week to Nicola Sharlot and Cllr Teresa Heron (Caerphilly County Borough Council Armed Forces Champion) who have worked tirelessly to help the veterans in need. We have a terminally ill veteran whose family didnt even know they could get carers allowance; arranged food and presents over Christmas for a family fleeing domestic violence and set up a homeless veteran in his first ever flat. Numerous amounts of pip forms! These are just a small portion of the types of issues that are supported via the hub. The hub could not be possible without funding from The Veterans' Foundation and last year with The National Lottery Community Fund too. Our huge thanks to them.
