As many schools break up for the summer holidays, parents need to be aware of where their children are. Construction companies need to take special efforts to make sure their sites are secure. Places like construction sites can look like exciting playgrounds with lots of things to do, but the reality is they are very dangerous places - even more so out of hours where there are no H&S people observing. Each year about this time we always get an uptick in response calls for youths who have broken on to site and think it's clever to climb tower cranes, swim in contaminated pools, run around on scaffolding.. and even set light to portable toilets (the melt to about the size of a football in about 8 minutes if anyone's interested). I never want to be in the situation where I am filling in an incident report where a youth on site has been seriously injured. A sad state of affairs when a wrong'un slips through the net.
"Why do you DBS check your guards? isn't it just an extra cost?" This is why we DBS check our guards. I hold contracts looking after vulnerable persons, be it students or homeless families. Every one of my team is checked monthly against the DBS update service, so no.. not all security companies provide the same level of service! Questions now need to be asked how a piece of vermin with a conviction for kidnap was allowed to work in the security industry.
