  • It was a privilege to engage with Kathrin Henneberger-Member of the German Bundestag at #cop29 .During the meeting, we engaged in an in-depth discussion on the intricacies of climate education and the critical role it plays in fostering environmental awareness and action. We explored how accessible and well-structured climate education can empower communities, especially young people, to understand the complexities of climate change and contribute to innovative, sustainable solutions. A significant focus of the conversation was on the active involvement of youth in decision-making processes. Participants emphasized that young people are not only the most affected by climate change but also key agents of change with the potential to drive impactful solutions. The meeting highlighted the need to create inclusive platforms that amplify youth voices, ensure their participation in policy formulation, and enable them to influence local, national, and global climate strategies. We also discussed the challenges young people face in accessing these opportunities, including gaps in education systems, resource constraints, and limited representation in leadership spaces. Addressing these barriers, the meeting called for stronger partnerships between governments, organizations, and youth-led initiatives to enhance education, build capacity, and promote intergenerational collaboration. Ultimately, the discussions underscored the urgency of investing in youth-led climate action and education as a cornerstone of building resilient and sustainable communities. #AdaptationInFocus #ClimateEducation #COP29Azerbaijan

  • Today at #COP29 , we were honored to meet and speak to Leonore Gewessler Austrian Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy,Mobility, Innovation and technology as well as serving as the EU lead negotiator on adaptation and Lukas Hammer, the Austrian Member of parliament from the Green Party. In our meeting, we delved into a comprehensive discussion on adaptation and its crucial role in addressing the impacts of climate change, with a particular emphasis on adaptation finance. We explored the growing need for targeted financial mechanisms to support vulnerable communities and ecosystems in building resilience to climate shocks. Key points included the challenges in mobilizing sufficient funds for adaptation efforts, especially for developing countries that bear the brunt of climate impacts despite contributing the least to global emissions. As well as the role of international frameworks like the Green Climate Fund and other multilateral initiatives. The conversation also highlighted the importance of prioritizing equity in adaptation finance, ensuring that resources reach marginalized and frontline communities. Moreover, we examined the need for robust tracking and accountability systems to measure the effectiveness of adaptation funding and its impact on long-term resilience.#AdaptationInFocus #AdaptationFinanceNow

  • As we conclude the first week of #COP29, which saw little advancement in policy talks, but we are glad to have participated in a couple of engagements. we explored pressing topics around climate action, sustainable change, and what it means to stand up for our planet. One of the primary issues of conversation was #adaptationfinancenow a vital need for communities across Africa that are on the frontlines of #climatechange. Enough funding must be allocated to assist vulnerable communities in adapting and becoming more resilient as the effects of climate change continue to worsen. We reiterated our group's calls for the NCQG to make a greater commitment to adaptation finance, which we see as both necessary and morally just in order to guarantee that no community is left behind in the battle against climate change.#adaptationinfocus

Solidarity is a verb! Many months ago, I received an email from the Agape Earth Coalition about partnering with them as they tour Europe on their way to COP29, meeting activists, decision-makers, and communities. Their mission is to raise awareness about the ways Europe’s actions on the African continent have caused devastation and put young Africans’ futures at risk. They highlighted case studies on Total, EACOP (East African Crude Oil Pipeline), and other extractive industries profiting from the land, leaving long-term harm. Fast forward to last weekend, and I held an event at Greenpeace called "Building Bridges: Africa-Europe Connections for a Just Climate Future". I envisioned an interactive space with people exploring how to better support communities on the frontline of the climate crisis. We spent the day discussing topics such as Europe’s impact on Africa, the financial and legal barriers Africans face in accessing global climate policymaking, the meaning of true international solidarity, the challenges of speaking up under state suppression, and so much more. The common demand was for more spaces like this, with a focus on working collectively to redistribute power, resources, and funding to those facing the brunt of climate change. A simple way you can show solidarity now is to follow Agape Earth Coalition and stay informed about their campaign to ensure climate conferences and decision-making spaces reflect the needs of those most affected. Solidarity is a verb. Let's not just talk about solidarity, let's actually practise showing up for others and resourcing each other 🤝 Thank you, Agape Earth Coalition (Evelyn Acham, Nicholas Omonuk , Dorcas, Alyaa Alaa Elbeal, and Tinaye Mabara), for sharing your stories and shedding light on what African communities face in the struggle for climate justice. Special thanks to Nourishing Economics (formerly known as Decolonising Economics) for supporting this event and to Jam Delish for providing the delicious plant-based Caribbean food—every plate was cleaned! Thank you to everyone who showed up and made sure the space was safe and welcoming for everyone 🙏🏾❤️ #climatejustice #youth

  • 🌍 *Advancing Climate Action through Adaptation Finance* Members of Agape Earth Coalition had the privilege of engaging in bilateral meetings with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), particularly from the Green Party, where we had the opportunity to share our experiences and discuss critical climate issues. One of the key topics we emphasized was #AdaptationFinance a pressing need for communities across Africa that are on the frontlines of #climatechange. As the impacts of #climatechange continue to intensify, it is crucial that adequate financial resources are directed toward helping vulnerable communities adapt and build resilience. We re-echoed our collective demands for a stronger commitment to Adaptation Finance in the NCQG, which we believe is not only an imperative but a moral responsibility to ensure no community is left behind in the fight against #climatechange. Together, we can bridge the gap and create a more resilient future for all. 🌿 #ClimateActionNow #AdaptationInFocus #AdaptationFinanceNow #MEPs #ClimateJusticeNow #ClimateResilience #EUPlenaries
