Mission and Vision of SPE International Our Mission To collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies for the public benefit; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence. This award is the highest honor, recognizing only the top 10% of SPE'S Student Chapters around the world for their efforts and achievements in areas such as: technical dissemination, professional development, member engagement, community involvement and operations.     The SPE UWI Student Chapter presents... " So you think you want to be a Data Scientist?", our first technical talk for 2024!!! Our guest speaker is Kiran Nandlal, Ph.D. and he will be discussing the role data science plays in the oil and gas industry along with the job opportunities in this field. Kiran holds degrees in Petroleum Geoscience, Reservoir Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. He began his academic journey at The University of the West Indies St. Augustine where he was first introduced to the Geosciences during his B.Sc. and gained an appreciation of the Subsurface and its application to Oil and Gas exploration. From there he attended Heriot-Watt University in Scotland where he delved deeper into the field of Reservoir Engineering with a M.Sc. in Reservoir Evaluation and Management. His studies were concluded with a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University with his Doctoral Dissertation focused on Reservoir Simulation of Drainage Volumes around Hydraulically Fractured Wells. These degrees were punctuated by various stints working and gaining invaluable experience in the Oil and Gas Industry both at governmental and private institutions. Kiran has experience as a Petroleum Geoscientist and Reservoir Engineer at the Ministry of Energy Trinidad and as a Reservoir Engineer at Heritage Petroleum. He has recently pivoted his Subsurface experience into the field of Data Science and Engineering and is currently a Subsurface Data Manager at bptt. In this role he makes extensive use of his domain knowledge in the spheres of Reservoir and Production Engineering to improve Automation, Data Integrity, and Data Security to realize bp’s goals of continuously evolving its global organizational Data Maturity. This technical talk promises to be exciting and insightful!!! YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT!
