At the Department of Petroleum Engineering, KNUST we firmly believe in a bright future for oil and gas in Africa—one full of opportunities for you. If humanity can send rockets to space, we can certainly harness oil and gas for Africa’s sustainable development without compromising our environment. But we face critical challenges. We need solutions to increase recovery, reduce production costs, and minimize the industry's environmental footprint. Strong postgraduate programmes designed to deliver research-intensive, practical training is the way forward. Great to see a really healthy in-person attendance at the ICorr Aberdeen and Energy Institute (AHI Branch) joint technical meeting last night at the Palm Court Hotel. Delighted to have represented the EI (AHI) in my role as Branch Vice-Chair but, more importantly, to have enjoyed such an insightful and engaging presentation by Dr. Steve Paterson of Arbeadie Consultants Limited entitled, 'Applying Materials Experience from Oil and Gas Production To Carbon Capture And Storage In North East Scotland'. My own personal key takeaways from the evening: - 🎯 In-person events offer so much more than just an information share on the subject matter being presented - never underestimate the power and positive impact of the networking and collaboration opportunity that is so difficult to achieve virtually 🎯 The history of delivering Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects to the point of execution in the UK to date has been nothing short of abysmal - this needs to change, and change in the very immediate future, if this 'technology' is to play a key part in our net zero aspirations 🎯 Despite what some might have you believe, the oil and gas sector provides a rich resource of lessons learned and technical expertise which are as equally applicable and transferable to the greener energy sector. Leverage those lessons and expertise, avoid reinventing the wheel where possible (never look a gift horse in the mouth) 🎯 We all need to continue to actively support local events of this nature as without this they’ll fall by the wayside and we’ll all miss such huge learning and development opportunities (register - commit - attend - learn)   Thanks to all involved for delivering such a great technical meeting. #cpd #eiahi #icorrabz #facetoface #continuouslearning #collaboration

There's the Academic Pathway for those aiming for university, and there's also the TVET Pathway (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) for those who want to focus on technical skills. If you're more into academic fields, you can continue to pre-university, technical university (MTUN), or regular university to get your degree, master's, or even PhD. But if you're the type who prefers hands-on skills, then TVET is perfect for you! From Vocational Colleges to Polytechnics and Training Institutes, these pathways can give you the skills you can use straight at the workplace, including in one of the hottest industries—oil & gas! 💼 What’s cool is that you can also switch between TVET and academic pathways if you want to try both! Who knows, you might end up getting a higher salary by combining both fields. If you have a Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM) or a Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM), you definitely have a big advantage in Oil & Gas! There are even more pathways to join the oil and gas industry! We've had a number of "interesting" meetings recently with people and organisations keen to build various types of "Centres of Excellence" some specified for offshore wind, some tagged it on to "get the grants" All were very interested in how "someone like us" had managed to do what we're doing and could we assist them.....some have actively excluded us from training and education review panels in our area and areas of expertise!!! I wasn't sure if i should be taking their interest as a compliment at first, then it dawned on me they think that it makes sense to build lecture halls and training pools like our little set up or the NMCI or the various other existing setups countrywide. THERES plenty of training capacity in the country, might need 1or2 extra bits, but if they are to be built lets do it sensibly in the right locations and by effective communication and collaboration with people who actually do these things!!! 💡 Growth Mindset 💡 🚀 I am delighted to share that I have successfully completed the course "Certificate in International Oil & Gas Business Management: Augmented Decision-Making from Wellhead to Consumer" offered by Glomacs. This course was an intensive and comprehensive program that covered the key aspects of the oil and gas business, from exploration and production to refining and marketing. Some of the learning outcomes of this course were: ·        Understanding the global oil and gas value chain and the factors that influence its performance and profitability. ·        Applying strategic management tools and frameworks to analyze the opportunities and challenges in the oil and gas sector. ·        Developing effective decision-making skills and techniques to optimize the allocation of resources and maximize the value creation. ·        Learning from the best practices and case studies of leading oil and gas companies and organizations. I would like to thank the instructor, Dr. Babak Jafarizadeh, for his excellent delivery and guidance throughout the course. He shared his insights and knowledge with us in a very engaging and interactive way and encouraged us to participate in discussions. I would also like to thank my fellow participants, who came from different countries and backgrounds, for their valuable contributions and feedback. It was a great opportunity to network and learn from each other's perspectives and experiences.
