  • A new global research paper worth checking out! Barbara Stewart, CFA and her 2024 Rich Thinking® global research paper “Women & Alts: A Global Study” commissioned by Kensington Capital Partners Limited. Here's why you should read it: 1. Barbara has interviewed over 50 investors from around the globe specifically on the gender gap in alt investing this year. I don’t know anyone else who has done that. 2. The paper looks at women's favourite alternative investments. 3. What resonates with women and what doesn’t. 4. And as the CFA Research and Policy Center concluded last week based on her work: 'it's time to retire the myth that women are risk-averse or lack confidence when it comes to alternative investing. It's holding back the entire industry.' You can read a summary of the report here: https://lnkd.in/g6bigvzR And the complete white paper here: https://lnkd.in/g_kqpV8i Thanks Barbara Stewart, CFA for including Harriet

In 2023, we embarked on a mission to support a handful of female founders in their fundraising efforts. After countless calls with venture capitalists (VCs), we uncovered some disheartening truths (most of us know them all well but for the benefit of those new to Harriet, we will summarise why we exist): Male Dominance: The vast majority of decision-makers in the VCs were men. Lack of Sector Expertise: Finding VCs with a deep understanding of Healthtech and Medtech in the APAC region proved to be a major challenge. "Safe Bets" Mentality: Most VCs favoured companies and founders that mirrored their existing investments, leaving little room for diverse and innovative ideas, especially those from women entrepreneurs. Inappropriate Questions: Some VCs asked questions that were not only irrelevant but also unprofessional and offensive. Misguided Advice: Many VCs offered advice that was completely out of touch with the founders' businesses and needs. We had to step in on numerous occasions to challenge this misguided counsel. The Takeaway: This experience was eye-opening and, at times, soul-crushing for both us and the founders we supported. While there's a lot of talk about women-led companies, the reality on the ground is still far from ideal. We have a long way to go before we see significant and meaningful progress in this space. Let's not mistake the noise for actual change. There's much work to be done to create a truly equitable and inclusive investment landscape. This is our reality and why Harriet is here. • Why Does Investing in Women-Led Companies Matter? Let's let data do the talking.... Did you know that female-founded companies generate more revenue per dollar invested compared to those founded by men? 🤯 That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the compelling reasons why supporting women-led businesses is not just a good deed, but a smart investment. Here's a closer look at the data: 💰 Higher Returns: Research by Boston Consulting Group shows that for every dollar of investment, women-led startups generate 78 cents in revenue, while male-led startups generate only 31 cents. 👩💻 Greater Innovation: Women-led companies frequently pioneer disruptive products and services, tapping into underserved markets and unmet needs. This innovative edge often stems from their unique perspective and lived experiences, particularly addressing gaps in industries that have historically overlooked women's needs. 👨👩👧👧 Positive Social Impact: Supporting women entrepreneurs helps to close the gender gap, promote economic equality, and create a more inclusive business landscape. Just three reasons why we do what we do at Harriet. Tanya Rolfe and Anna Pearson #Harriet #FemaleFounders #WomenInBusiness #InvestInWomen #GenderEquality

"For as long as I can remember, I've had a hard time accepting the status quo. When I see something that needs change or an injustice that needs addressing, I feel compelled to act—accepting things as they are is simply not an option for me. Supporting women-led companies is one of those challenges that I just can’t overlook.....largely because it is bonkers!" Tanya Rolfe tells us why she joined forces with Anna Pearson to form Harriet. #harriet #femalefounders
