In the first look of the Netflix series’ fourth season, the Pogues revel in their recent findings, with John B. (Chase Stokes) opening the teaser by saying, “We finally did it. We finally found the gold.” “That’s where the story should’ve ended, but really it was just the beginning,” he’s heard saying over clips of John B., Sarah ( Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) around the North Carolina islands. Courtesy of Netflix The new teaser follows the season 3 finale that included an 18-month time jump revealing the group of friends discovered Blackbeard’s gold. However, new episodes will take audiences back in time, leading to Wes Genrette’s (David Jensen) proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s treasure. Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix The Pogues return to the OBX from El Dorado and set forth with a “normal” life after they built their own “safe haven." They refer to it as “Poguelandia 2.0,” where the group lives together and operates a successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop, per Netflix's press release. However, they’re faced with a few financial setbacks, pushing Wes to offer friends the chance to embark on a new adventure — that may cause them to form dangerous new enemies also on the hunt for the treasure. “Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they’re forced to question their past, present, and future - who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk?” the press release reads. After the shocking deaths of both John B. and Sarah’s fathers — Big John (Charles Halford) and Ward Cameron (Charles Esten), respectively — at the end of season 3 during their mission to El Dorado, the onscreen couple deals with the ramifications of those traumatic events. “Anytime you experience loss, it hits in spaces and in places that you don't anticipate,” he told PEOPLE. “Being in the situation that John B. and Sarah are in, it really will force them to evaluate everything.” Everything to Know About Outer Banks Season 4 Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Carlacia Grant as Cleo in episode 401 of 'Outer Banks.'. Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix Co-showrunner Josh Pate also teased to Tudum that the upcoming season will feature several flashbacks to fill in the gaps with the 18-month time jump. "We felt like we needed to migrate them out of school," he explained. "We think about the first three [seasons] as a trilogy and then we're starting over on [another sort of] trilogy now. We just needed to clear the decks. We're going to have new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation."
