Olivia Rodrigo may be dancing across the stage while she’s on tour, but there’s one part of her look that absolutely doesn’t budge: her lipstick!

The “Get Him Back” singer’s flawless makeup is on display throughout her new Netflix concert special Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour (now streaming), and in a chat with PEOPLE, the star reveals how she keeps things concert-ready for the entirety of her show.

“I have an amazing makeup artist named Karissa who comes with me everywhere and helps me out,” Rodrigo says. “The lipstick is very important.”

The Grammy winner, 21, says she even has a special hack to make sure her lipstick stays put.

“It has to be really thick on your lips, because if it moves a little, it’ll get on your microphone and then it’ll be all over your face by the end of the show,” she explains. “So the lipstick is very, very important. You have to have a very strong one.”

Rodrigo captured the magic of her GUTS world tour with help from director James Merryman, who had the cameras rolling for a show at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles in August. The tour began in February in Palm Springs, Calif., and wrapped earlier this month after nearly 100 shows.

“I just wanted to create an experience for people to relive the show and I’m so proud of the show and everyone works so hard to pull it together,” she says. “I was really excited at the prospect of having a little memento that we could watch back forever.”

In her chat with PEOPLE, Rodrigo says the tour brought along some lifelong memories, like the time her two best friends celebrated her show at the iconic Madison Square Garden with a sign that read, “We love you Olivia.”

Then in Australia, she discovered a new hobby — surfing!

“We finished the tour in Australia and me and all my dancers, we took a surf lesson at one of the beaches in Australia. I’ll remember that forever,” she says. “It was so much fun, and we all stood up and it was great. It’s like a core memory for sure. We all caught waves!”

Rodrigo says the goal with her concert special was creating something that would commemorate the experience as a sort of “time capsule, just for me personally.”

“I’m really excited to show my kids this film when I’m like, 40,” she says. “And be like, ‘This is what mom did when she was 21! Isn’t that cool?’”
