Lindsay Hubbard Claims Carl Radke 'Wanted Me to Beg' to Stay Together but 'Doesn't Fully Understand Commitment'

Lindsay Hubbard is sharing her side of the story about her split with Carl Radke.

On Wednesday's episode of The Viall Files podcast, the Summer House star, 36, revealed where she and her ex-fiancé stood before he abruptly ended their relationship and why she thinks it ultimately didn't work out.

"When I tell you the entire world found within 30 minutes of me, it was chaotic and hectic," Hubbard told host Nick Viall of the news breaking that she and Radke, 38, were no longer heading toward the aisle.

She continued, "All of a sudden, I had to go into hiding because I had to protect my privacy and I had to sort through my emotions and I had to get through the shock of it all."

Hubbard confirmed that Radke broke up with her on camera without any warning, saying, "It was like the ultimate blindsiding of the year for me at least. There was no indication that he was having second thoughts or unhappy."

Viall, 43, then brought up her costar Kyle Cooke's claim that she and Radke had "been in constant couple's therapy ever since they basically started dating." Hubbard clarified that they sought couples' therapy "about a year into dating," which was in November 2022.

"He was going through a really hard time with his job at Loverboy." she explained of Radke. "He was very unhappy. Our communication was off. Our honeymoon phase wore off."

"We were supposed to go to couple's therapy that day," she said of the day Radke called off the engagement. "He didn't give me an indication. He didn't say anything that would have alluded to 'I'm having cold feet or I'm having second thoughts or I'm not ready or I think we need more time.' He said nothing to me over summer. He said nothing that would've given any clues."

Emphasizing that it was "complete blindsided whiplash," Hubbard said of the two weeks leading up to the split, "All of a sudden I had to change everything about me to be with him." She added that Radke allegedly told her to be "softer and nurturing and caring and loving and positive" when the topic of their future together — including career and kids — came up.

Hubbard claimed that Radke then told her, "I don't want the role of my wife to be somebody who asks questions and gives advice and has opinions." This confused her given how long they've known each other and how she had been vocal since they started dating.

"I just am not certain that he had the tools to fully understand what a partnership is," added Hubbard. "I got no answers from him."

She then addressed rumors that Radke was unfaithful and that is why he ended things. "I don't think he cheated," he said. "I don't think that's something that happened. I don't think there was any big moment. I just think that he doesn't fully understand commitment and what it takes to be in a relationship."

Looking back at how Radke consulted with production and canceled their couples' therapy appointment that day he broke the news to her, Hubbard said she didn't realize what was happening until "the words came out."

"I don't think I reacted the way he wanted me to react. And as soon as he said, 'You don't take me seriously,' I looked at him and I realized, 'Oh, he's wants me to beg and plead and say, 'No, no, no, don't do this. I'll change. I'll do whatever you need. Don't call off the wedding,'" she recounted.

"That's what he wanted from me. But that is not me and that will never be me," she continued. "As soon as he said in that moment, 'You don't even take me seriously,' I knew this weird f---ed-up situation that felt like he was using the cameras to threaten me."

Hubbard and Radke — who planned to tie the knot in Mexico in November after getting engaged in August 2022 — called off their engagement and canceled their wedding in September.

Radke shared the news — and apologized for any confusion or inconvenience — in a letter to the former couple’s wedding guests obtained by PEOPLE.

"Words cannot possibly express how difficult the last two weeks have been for Lindsay and I," he wrote in part. "There have been a lot of false narratives and misunderstandings that have made this all the more painful but sadly at this time we are not moving forward with the wedding. The fact of the matter is Lindsay is devastated and I'm crushed with how all this transpired. I graciously ask for some patience and grace to heal and recover while we navigate this extremely difficult time."

Shortly after announcing their split, Hubbard opened up about the breakup on social media, thanking her followers for giving her time and space to “grieve the loss of not only my relationship, but my friendship with someone I considered my best friend for 8 years.”

“The last 2 weeks have been the most heartbreaking and emotional weeks of my life,” she wrote in the now-deleted Instagram post. “My entire life and future was ripped out from underneath me and I’ve had a hard time making sense of it all - with no answers or closure on why."

“I feel humiliated by how it went down, and simultaneously heartbroken that it happened in the first place,” she continued. “My trust has been betrayed, and coming to terms with that has been difficult for me.”

The day before, the former couple's would-be wedding officiant, Captain Lee Rosbach, talked about Radke's reaction to the split during an episode of PodcastOne’s Salty With Captain Lee. In the episode, Rosbach, 73, immediately laughing off fan theories that Radke had cheated.

Speaking to PEOPLE at BravoCon in Las Vegas over the weekend, Radke admitted that “there's still some closure” needed with his ex, as well as other post-split issues that "are going to need to be figured out at some point.”

“I'm just on one day at a time,” he said. “I'm just trying to just take care of myself.”

Radke also described the breakup as “unbelievably emotionally hard for the both of us” and added that, “if there's a way I can make it all better in some capacity, I would do that.”
