Lenny Kravitz Didn't Know He'd Be Nude in 'TK421' Music Video Until He Showed Up to Set (Exclusive)

"I had a lot of fun doing it," the rocker tells PEOPLE of making the visual at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards

Lenny Kravitz didn't know he'd be baring it all in the "TK421" music video.

The rock star, 59, opened up to PEOPLE on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards on Thursday night about being in the buff in the music video for his recent single "TK421."

According to Kravitz, the concept came from Tanu Muino — the director of the music video — who initially proposed it without the caveat of nudity.

"She came to me and said, 'This is what we're going to do. You're going to get out of bed, you're going to get ready for the day, you're going to get dressed, and then you're going to walk out of the house,'" he tells PEOPLE.

The "Fly Away" musician continued: "The morning she showed up and she said, 'Take your clothes off.' But it was fun. It was fun, and I had a lot of fun doing it."

Kravitz dropped the sexy visual for "TK421" in October 2023.

In the opening scene, Kravitz rolls over in his bed — fully naked — as the song's rollicking tune starts playing in the background. Then, a nude Kravitz seduces viewers as he starts dancing around, smokes a cigarette and washes his naked body.

"All aboard, now it's time to face your fear / The conversations in your mind / You can tell me how it really makes you feel / And I will promise you it will be fine," he sings. "Come on baby, get 421 (421)/ Can you feel it, my TK421 / Look out baby, try 421 (421) / So much better, with my TK421."

Later in the video, Kravitz sports a leather ensemble and grooves to the catchy tune before dropping to the floor for a dramatic finale.

Just one month prior, the "American Woman" artist made a TikTok account and marked his debut by bringing back his infamous giant scarf featured in a 2012 photo of himself.

“Grab your big scarf, it’s the first day of fall,” Kravitz said while walking toward the camera in his initial post.

The legendary rocker is set to release his 12th studio album Blue Electric Light on March 15, which will follow 2018's Raise Vibration and 2014's Strut.
