Her performance at the nine-decade-spanning tradition marks 20 years since she first appeared on the holiday special and comes after recently relocating her Emmy-winning talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show to NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza home base. The Grammy winner shared a statement in a press release about the upcoming event. She said, “I’m so excited to consider this city and Rockefeller Center my new home, and I can’t imagine a better way to kick off Christmas this year than to be a part of this beautiful New York tradition with the lighting of the tree!” The hitmaker/TV host herself shared the announcement and spoke about how excited she is to return to the classic special on Thursday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. “Speaking of fun things happening in New York, I have a little news that I am really excited about. As you know, the holiday tree lighting in New York is an iconic tradition. The tree itself is spectacular, but that’s just one part of the grand event,” the star said. “I had the opportunity to perform for my first time in NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center 20 years ago, and I’m stoked to reveal that I am getting the chance to do it again — this time at my new home at 30 Rock,” she continued. “And I’m not just singing — I’m actually going to host the whole thing.” Kelly Clarkson. The hitmaker concluded, “I’m very excited. I love Christmas so much. It’s so magical. My whole family’s going to be here. We are very excited about Christmas in New York.” During the Nov. 29 special, the “Mine” singer will also be joined by TODAY anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker and Craig Melvin. The singer announced back in May that she was relocating her TV show from Los Angeles to N.Y.C. for its fifth season, which recently premiered on Oct. 16. Kelly Clarkson Says She Would 'Love' to Write Music with Mariah Carey The “Miss Independent” artist has since opened up about how much she loves the change. "I’ll be real honest: I thought I was making a horrible decision," Clarkson told USA Today earlier this month. "I knew I needed a fresh start and couldn’t be in L.A. I really wanted to be in Montana, but you can’t really do a show from there quite yet. So I was like, ‘The only other option would probably be New York.'" She added, "I genuinely love it, and I love that my kids love it." Earlier this year, the former American Idol winner also released her 10th studio album Chemistry to acclaim. Along with the release, she also kicked off her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency, which ran from June until August at Planet Hollywood’s Bakkt Theater. Close
