During Monday's episode of the Today show, the two co-hosts spoke with guest Mindy Kaling about what they were like during their high school years. After the trio noted what "huge" nerds they were at the time, Guthrie, 51, raised her hand and said: "Didn't go to prom!" Kotb, 59, then raised her hand, making the same declaration. The pair's revelation stunned Kaling, who noted she "did go to prom" twice. "Wait, did you get asked or did you ask him?" Kotb said. "Because I only got a date when I asked. That's why I'm asking." Guthrie chimed in, "Me too!" Awkward Celebrity Prom Photos That Are Too Amazing Not to Obsess Over This isn't the first time Kotb and Guthrie have mentioned their absence from prom. On a previous Today show episode airing in 2020, fellow co-host Al Roker asked his colleagues if they had any special memories from their time at prom. Craig Melvin remembered staying out "later" than he was "supposed to," making his mom "none too happy." But Roker, 69, admitted he didn't go because he "couldn't get a date." "Sad but, I'm over it," Roker added. "I didn't go to mine either, Al," Kotb said. "I know. I didn't!" After Guthrie shared that "no one asked me," Carson Daly also confessed he wasn't in attendance at his own prom. "I'll tell you what. For those of you watching, if you ever want to be a part of the Today show, prerequisite number one: don't go to prom. I didn't go either," he said before joking, "We're a bunch of losers!" Recalled Daly, 50: "I stayed home and watched 60 Minutes with my father and played golf early the next day." To that, Guthrie added, "Guys, I think we've learned something — high school dorks can do better! There's hope, look at us!" Close
