Ariana Grande Hilariously Recreates 'Wicked Witch of the East, Bro' Meme with Some Help from Jimmy Fallon

Ahead of the release of ‘Wicked,’ Ariana Grande lip synched to a viral video of an iconic argument: “Grow up bro, grow up!”

Ariana Grande is setting the record straight with Jimmy Fallon on a very important topic: who’s a princess and who’s a witch in The Wizard of Oz

For her Thursday, Nov. 14 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Wicked star, 31, recreated a viral meme referred to as “Wicked Witch of the East, bro.” Lip-synching to the original video’s immortal words — “Grow up bro, grow up!”  — she faux-furiously schooled Fallon, 50, on Oz lore.

“You're gonna look at me and you're gonna tell me that I'm wrong? Am I wrong? She wore a crown and she came down in a bubble,” lip synchs Grande. As befits Glinda, the apparent subject of the argument and her character in the Wicked movie musical, the “Yes, And?” singer wore a blush-colored gown with ruffles and a regal train for her Tonight Show appearance.

All Fallon can feign to muster, as in the original video, is a feeble, “Get educated.”

Sitting down for her interview with Fallon, Grande discussed the “heart attack” she had upon earning the role of Glinda in Jon M. Chu’s movie adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s hit Broadway musical, itself inspired by the 1995 Gregory McGuire novel reimagining the origins of L. Frank Baum’s witches of Oz.

They also recapped her recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live and how she may have helped get cast member Bowen Yang into Wicked. “The scariest moment of my life,” Grande said, was calling SNL creator Lorne Michaels to convince him to share Yang, 34, who plays Pfannee in the movie. “He worked it out and flew back and forth between SNL and filming Wicked to be a part of it. And he’s unbelievable and just put himself through it to get it done.”

Earlier this year, Grande appeared on Fallon’s show to reveal how Glinda was her dream role, teasing the upcoming movie. Fallon gifted her a sweatshirt with his baby photo on it, returning the favor from when Grande had done the same to commemorate their friendship.

Wicked: Part One is in theaters Nov. 22, with Part Two due Nov. 26, 2025. The movies star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Peter Dinklage as the voice of Dr. Dillamond and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
