Pitbull Shares His Tips for Being Sexy

The hip-hop artist (and Sexy Man) gives dating advice for the common man

Yes, he made the list of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Men Alive, but rapper Pitbull has a message for all the guys out there: You, too, can be sexy.

The rapper (real name: Armando Christian Pérez) tells PEOPLE that you don’t have to look like a movie star to be attractive to the opposite sex.

“I think being sexy is about more than just looks,” he says. “In fact, I think you can be sexy without being good-looking.”

Pitbull, who will host the American Music Awards on Nov. 24, agreed to share some of his tips for sexiness for the average guy.

Think of this as having a multiplatinum dating coach. (And you’re welcome.)

1. Be confident.
“When someone knows who he is, that’s a trait that is sexy to the opposite sex. When you’re confident, it shows. You walk into a room and people immediately think you’re sexy. Realize that no matter who you are, you have a lot to offer other people. That will boost your confidence. If you have a good sense of humor or are sharp and witty, be confident in that.”

2. Pay attention.
“At dinner, put away your damn phone. No woman wants to compete with your iPhone. Don’t text other people; talk to her. Be with her and give her your undivided attention. When I go to a restaurant and see a guy texting and the girl looking bored, I think he’s about to lose her.”

3. Be chivalrous.
“A real man is a gentleman. You open her door. You let her order first. It’s a good way of showing that you care about making her happy. That’s sexy.”

4. Compliment her.
“Men need to realize what it takes for a woman. She works so hard. She gets up way before us to get everything done. So you have to compliment her on things that she has accomplished. And when you compliment her looks, choose something that took a lot of work. It shows that you care and appreciate all she does. Saying ‘Your nails look beautiful’ can go a long way in making her feel good about herself. You’re sexy when you make her feel sexy.”

5. No pick-up lines!
“I don’t hit on women. I don’t want to be like, ‘Hey baby, you look like this or that’ and say disrespectful things. I’m just not that kind of person. You should always be sincere when you interact with a woman. Say hello and pay her a real compliment. Don’t try to be cocky, because it’s just not a gentlemanly thing to do.”

6. Think outside yourself.
“It’s sexy to give back to the community in charities or good work. You should be obligated to motivate and inspire others. That’s priceless, and you should just be doing that as a human being.”
