Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin may have famously agreed to “consciously uncouple” back in 2014, but that hasn’t stopped the pair from remaining close – or showing their support for each other.

The 43-year-old actress opened up about her divorce on Wednesday while chatting with Stephen Sackur, host of the BBC News program HardTalk, at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France, where she even attended a concert by the Coldplay frontman.

According to the New York Post‘s Page Six, Paltrow said her split from Martin, 39 was “difficult” – though she’s happy they’ve found a way to co-parent amicably.

“As anybody who has been divorced knows, you have to put a lot aside to maintain the family and the practicalities of what that might mean and sometimes that’s quite tough on a personal level,” Paltrow explained. “It’s a commitment I make every day to my children and their father even though we’re not in a romantic relationship.”

“You can remain a family even though you are not a couple and make it a less traumatic experience for the children,” she continued.

Of the phrase “conscious uncoupling,” Paltrow said that while she didn’t come up with the term, she’s “very proud of it.”

“It was a difficult time in our lives,” she told Sackur. “We didn’t know that the ‘conscious uncoupling’ phrase was going to inspire so much conversation. At the time people said, these people are crazy and it’s true, but over time now I hear people saying ‘thank you’ for showing there is another way.”

Paltrow was at the festival to talk about her lifestyle website Goop. Her full chat with Sackur will air on the show on Monday.

On Tuesday night, Paltrow even showed up to support her musician ex-husband as he performed a private solo concert at the Hôtel du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes.

According to The New York Post‘s Page Six, Martin asked the crowd, “Is there anyone in the room that used to be married to me?” He later pulled Unilever exec Gail Tifford on stage for a duet, joking to Paltrow, “At least someone else understands what I put you through.”

The concert featured Martin performing a tributes to both Prince (“Raspberry Beret”) and David Bowie (“Life on Mars”).

(Will Smith was there too, to rap his way through what he remembered of his 1997 hit song “Men in Black.”)

Last month, Paltrow and Martin reached a settlement in their divorce, entering into a written agreement regarding their property and agreeing that neither will ever ask for spousal support.

The couple have two children – 12-year-old daughter Apple and 10-year-old son Moses – and remain close, even spending time together while Martin was on tour with his band, Coldplay.

Paltrow is currently dating Scream Queens co-creator Brad Falchuk.
