How Christina Hall Last Navigated Filming With a Soon-To-Be Ex-Husband as Fate of The Flip Off Remains Unknown

Christina Hall is no stranger to filming a reality TV show with an ex-husband.

The HGTV star and her husband Josh Hall announced in May that they are filming a new house flipping show set to air next year opposite Hall’s first husband and Flip or Flop co-star, Tarek El Moussa, and Tarek's new wife, Selling Sunset alum Heather Rae El Moussa.

 But on Monday, July 15, Josh filed for divorce from Christina after three years of marriage citing "irreconcilable differences," leaving the fate of the foursome's new series hanging in the balance

HGTV previously revealed that The Flip Off, which will see the two couples competing against each other to flip homes for a profit, is scheduled to debut in 2025,

If the show goes on as planned, it wouldn't be the first time Christina filmed a reality TV show with an estranged spouse. 

After announcing their split in December 2016, Tarek and Christina — who share daughter Taylor, 13, and son Brayden, 8 — continued to film Flip or Flop together for years as amicable exes.

The first episode of Flip or Flop after their divorce aired in 2018. Many fans wondered how the show would change, but the pair kept things playful, leaning into their professional rivalry, showing how they were co-parenting, and even mentioning that they were dating other people on the show. 

"We shot the pilot in summer of 2011, so we've been doing this for a really long time," Tarek said in an interview for the Today Show in 2018. "It's part of who we are and what we do, and for us to just throw everything away, it just wasn't worth it."

During the interview, Tarek and Christina both said collaborating post-divorce isn’t always easy but they try to get along for their children. 

“I think it's easier now than two years ago,” Christina said in 2018. “It’s just easier to work together and get along.” 

Things took a rocky turn just three years later in July 2021 when PEOPLE confirmed a report that the two had a blow-up while filming. Tarek reportedly compared Hall to his then-fiancée Heather, and said he enjoyed watching Christina fail, referring to her as a "washed-up loser."

“Tarek lashed out and he's super remorseful,” a source told PEOPLE a few days after the incident. “They're exes who share a history and children and a workplace, but outside of co-parenting, they're not friends."

Just eight months later, Tarek and Christina confirmed Flip or Flop was ending after being on air for ten years with the last episode airing in December 2022. 

The pair have since moved on to independent projects. Tarek launched two new shows on HGTV — Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa and The Flipping El Moussas with Heather. Christina stars in Christina On The Coast and its spin-off, Christina In The Country with Josh.

The Flip Off would mark their first time filming together since the end of Flip or Flop.
